Chance me for Carnegie Mellon!

Hi,
I am an international student(Indian) applying to Carnegie Mellon in the fall semester of 2014.
I will be applying for B Sc.( Computer Science ).(Although this will be first choice, I am open to other subjects as well)

SAT Scores- 2140 ( Math-800, CR-690, Writing-650)
TOEFL Score- 111
SAT II Scores- Math-800
Physics-800

I have the following ECs:-

1) National Circuit Golfer and multiple tournament winner at national level (Canegie Mellon has a golf team as well, right?)

2)Member of an NGO- Help Age India which works for the betterment of the condition of the old.

3)Trained singer in Hindustani Classical Music and 'Carnatic' Classical and appeared in various concerts.

4)Trained Keyboard and Harmonium('Traditional Version of the Piano') player

5)Avid Trekker having hiked mountains of heights in the range of 15,000 feet.

6)Lead Member in a two-member team that represented my school at a national chemistry meet- involved in the innovation of the 'Microbial Fuel Cell'(A cell that produces electricity only on sludge).

7) Learnt Sanskrit (Language) for 2 years.

I have good essays and have consistently been among the top students in class.

Please let me know if I have any chance of getting financial aid from the university.

I have some friends who apply to CMU too, and you definitely have more advantages…

CMU Comp Sci is super-selective and will be a reach for anyone applying. If anything, your SAT seems a little too low, but you still have a shot. Your ECs seem solid, although there is absolutely nothing math or comp-sci related… Also, as far as I know, CMU doesn’t give any financial aid to international students.

Do they really consider the writing score? Or is it the traditional Math+CR system?

Not sure, but keep in mind CS at Carnegie has acceptance rate of ~6%.

I’d put it as a low match/ high reach. CS at CMU is highly competitive.

*high match/ low reach. Sorry, my bad

Dude you have an amazing chance. However it’ll be a little tough with Computer Science major

My advice is to pick a major that’s easier to get in with, then change your major later on :P

Chance me?

@kickcheese

Done!

CMU: Computer Science - High Reach

Edit

CMU is very stingy. Don’t expect any fin aid.

Would CS at Cornell have higher chances?
