Chance me for college of engineering?

GPA: 2.7-2.8 leading up to this year, had just under 3 last term junior year. SO tfar this year with AP physics, AP psych, Hon. Calc, Hon english, etc I had a 3.83 first term and am on track for about 4.0 or just under for the second term.

SAT: 2110- 690 m, 720 cr, 700 w

EC’s: 4 years of cross country, indoor track and spring track, varsity 3 years. DOn’t expect to be recruited but I’ve been pretty successful with this. President of chess club, I’ve had countless service hours at my church’s food pantry (since 4th grade), physics olympics, help with student gov.

rec’s should be pretty great from physics teacher and counselor.

Reasoning for the bad grades being a parent having cancer, death in the family.

I got deferred by Northeastern and was thinking of another boston school to apply to. I do love BU but I’ve been ruling it out due to my GPA. Chances???

I think you have a good chance if your essay is really strong. (And I mean like Ironman strong.) Also, make sure to explain in your app the reasoning for the bad grades, because you’ve improved so so much (congrats on that!). It might be hard to get into ENG, but CGS would almost def take you. (College of General Studies, you go for 2 years and build a foundation and then you can transfer to your subject of choice.) Good luck!
