Lol you don’t need to be chanced, you have great stats. But what is your major, specifically? Something to do with engineering or science? I apologize if you put it in your post and I didn’t see it. Anyway though if you look at the best schools for your specific major, then you can narrow your list down a bit  what do you want to be involved with in college? How many students do you want to be surrounded by? There’s many questions you need to ask yourself and research in order to narrow down your list.

I’m looking at doing a medicine and business double-major. I’m not really too picky with class size or the college environment, because I’ve moved around so much with schools before. One of my main concerns is whether the top schools that I’m looking at are a good match for me, or if I’m simply making up for quality in quantity. I’m also not really sure what to consider a safety school outside of Virginia, and need some help picking some good schools that I can still get into.

Ah ok well then what you’re doing by going on school tours will really help you. I’m not an expert on schools with medicine and business but perhaps a school I think you will be almost guaranteed to be accepted to might be RPI? Not sure if that fits what you would want but it’s respected and prestigious and I’m sure it has your programs. It’s also outside VA. Looks like your other safety might be VCU, and I think Richmond as well? But then again they’re both in VA.

I’d retake the ACT if I were you.

But really, excellent stats for top schools are often times still a crapshoot.

With that said, your combination of excellent test scores, great grades, and good extracurriculars make you competitive. I’d put your chances as follows:

University Of Virginia: Match/ High Match
Yale: Reach
Princeton: Reach
Harvard: Reach
VCU GMED: Match
Brown PLME: Low Reach/ Reach
University of Richmond: Match
MIT: Reach
Columbia University: Reach
Duke University: High Match/ Low Reach
U Penn: Low Reach
John Hopkins: High Match
Darthmoth: Low Reach
Cornell: Low Reach
Vanderbilt: High Match

I am really sure that you will get into many of these colleges. Work on the essays, and I’m sure you’ll be content with your options come April of next year.

VCU and U of R are 2 of my safety schools, but U of R is a little iffy, because it’s too close to home and I don’t have the same ties to U of R as I do with VCU. Thanks for a recommendation of RPI! I’ve been looking for out-of-state safety schools, just to keep my options open when I do decide where I’m going to go.
@Debater1996
Would you say that a 36 would significantly improve my changes for HYP? And is there anything I should focus on developing in the next six months to gain a better chance to HYP?

Note that for mine, I never heard of VCU or U of Richmond, and I figured that since I never had, Match was a good default. If you consider them to be safeties, then they probably are.

Excellent stats! I only see threats with HYPD + MIT due to high amount of applicants and need for diversity. You will be pooled with many people like you, so don’t be surprised if someone that year is picked over you due to an unique EC on their application the school likes
Its good to have all these things but dont be too Robotish, you want to be an individual that sticks out, not one that just does it to do it.

Do you think it would help for me to not specify my race and ethnicity?

You have pretty good stats; should be a low-reach at most of the ivies; just write a really good essay and hope you get in. I live in California, and I recommend that you apply to UC Berkeley or UCLA. Their programs are very highly ranked nationally (look up Berkeley EECS) and the prices are excellent in comparison to ivies, even for out of state students.

Also, in general, colleges do not like it when you conceal your race and ethnicity; I am an asian, and I know it sucks to be an over represented minority, but if you don’t specify anything they assume the worst.

Please chance me at:

Yeah, a 36 will help a lot. However, I do not think that I could rightfully call HYP a low reach for any person. They are absolute crapshoots for admission. Being a reach is the best you can get for them. For 95% of applicants, they are a High Reach. Just keep doing what you are doing. I assume that you’ll get into one.
