Hi CC. I am a rising Junior. I was wondering what my chances at these colleges. I especially want to get into cornell and planning on applying ED next year. want to major in math/econ
ethnicity: asian
SAT 1: haven’t taken it yet, but on practice tests have been getting a 2250 ish
ACT: prob around 34-35 ish range
GPA 3.91 out of 4 unweighted, 5.3 out of 6 weighted
Rank: top 10%, prob going to rise next year but you never know
ECs:
doing a research project with UT professor on stock market
Volunteering at Middle school mathcounts team (which i was a part of, our team went to state)
Going to do CAMP camp
AIME qualifier (hopefully next year as well but better)
boy scouts (expect to get eagle by college admissions, also I am the troop SPL)
Debate team
DECA state qualifier in texas
mentor for my brothers lego robotics team (they were finalists in the global innovation prize in lego league)
AP’s: so far I got a 4 in APUSH and a 5 in comp sci
as for weaknesses I got a C in APUSH second semester, ended with a B overall. I know this sucks and will prob ruin my chances, but I have reasons why though. Also I am dropping from IB to AP if thats important.
Chance me and I will chance back!
Also as a Hobby I enjoy cooking and playing league of legends if thats anything
Why don’t you wait until you have a SAT scores. It’s hard to chance without it.
Got it. I was just wondering so i know what are considered my reach, match, and safety schools
So far I’d say your chances are alright for these schools, but if you do end up getting very high test scores that’ll improve them considerably. For Berkeley, if you’re out of state you’ll be paying full tuition (about $55,000 a year) so it might not really be worth it. I’d suggest that you keep up with all the AP classes you can, take a community college course in something you like before application time (if your school allows it), and don’t forget about SAT II tests. You’ll need those for Cornell, and other schools will want them too. Right now I’d say Harvey Mudd, Columbia, Caltech, MIT, HYPMS are high reaches. Northwestern, Cornell, and Berkeley are reaches, while USC is a low reach. Definitely start looking for match/safety schools, you might want to consider schools like Northeastern, Emory, Boston University, Carnegie Mellon (this one’s still hard to get into) and some of your state schools for safeties or anything with an acceptance rate over 40%. Always run the NPC so that you know how much financial aid you can expect. Good luck! PS Never chase Singed it just isn’t worth it
Thanks! does anyone know what cornell looks for most in college applications? and by reach how much percent chance do you think I have JPhilly99?
Also the school I go to is a highly ranked public school in the nation which is recognized by many of the top universities of the nation, and usually the top 7% goes to ivies or equivalent schools
