I'm pretty sure I'm top 10% and I do have the most intense courseload

thank you and I am open to any criticism as long as it helps.

oh I forgot to add,

if we get to choose the essay topic, I will be writing it about my experience at the retirement home, it is a long but pretty good story, IMO

Your math scores and ECs are good for sure, but you should improve your ACT score, especially science if you want to get into CoE. Maybe try the SAT or try doing subject tests in your best subjects.

Your ACT is definitely on the low side. Your grade average can be just a bit higher, but everything else should be on par.

I recommend you to raise your ACT score. You are pretty good at math but try to raise your percentages. Moreover you hae to write an excellent essay and I am sure you can, Do everything you can to raise your chances and you will have strong chance to get in. Still for now you have a good shot as an international applicant=)

Good-Great EC’s on par grades, and if you can raise your ACT to around a 32 you should be in

Like previous posters have said, you need to improve your ACT (especially science). If you work on that I think you’ll definitely be more competitive. I can’t really comment on your grades; you’ve clearly done well in math, but your overall is like an “A-” average which equates to a 3.66 GPA at most American high schools. That would actually be considered low for ivys, but you are an international applicant so I’m not sure how that works. Apply Early Decision if Cornell is your first choice - the acceptance rate is much higher.

really!!! 3.66, but that is considered high over here, do people have 100 avgs in US

@manas1997
That can mean two things:

 1. The way GPA is calculated in your school is in general different from America’s
 2. GPA in your school is more difficult to earn.

Very little chance with a 29 ACT. That would barely get an American into McGill Engineering.

@daveguard @manas1997 Sorry, but I wouldn’t exactly say those grades are “on par”. They are a little low, you’re barely hitting 90s. To be competitive you should be excelling in your courses, e.i 95%+, especially since you’re international.

Also, after emailing various college admission reps, I’ve heard that GPA is weighed more heavily than the SAT or ACT. I’ve taken AP bio this year as grade 11 as well and all my courses this semester are grade 12 courses. Unless you have some amazing ECs, essays, and a really high ACT/SAT score, Cornell requires 2 subject tests, your GPA will really hurt your chances.

The grading system in Ontario is different from the States. The medians in high school courses are much lower in Ontario. A 90% is similar to a 95% or 96% in the U.S.
