Hi, I’m an international applicant and I’m wondering if I have a shot at getting accepted at Cornell for engineering (ED)
SAT 1: 1460 (very low, I know)
SAT 2: Math 1c: 740, Physics: 800
My high school grades are pretty great, and I’m at the top 5% of my batch. Ive also played at the national level in two sports and at the state level in a third.
I’m female, maybe that’s a hook?
You have a decent chance because you are applying early decision. A 1460 is about a 31-32 ACT and that is not “very low.” It is slightly low for Ivy Leagues, but not impossible… For the class of 2017, Cornell’s Early Decision admit rate was about 29%. Your SAT 2’s are pretty good.
Being female is probably a boost for engineering. Your stats are good, and the extracurriculars you listed. I wish my SAT was 1460 :)) I only managed to get a 1340 after 3 tries.
Honestly, I prepped for literally just 15 hours before my sat (cuz I’m lazy), and this includes the four sample papers I did over at ka. imo (which ain’t all that valuable), you should do proper tests instead of solving the book.
I should have attempted the ACT earlier to see if the test was a better match for me from the get-go. I will be taking the ACT in Dec, so I have one more chance for my standardized test scores, and one more chance for my SAT subject tests. But no matter what happens, I know I will end up where I am supposed to!
And if you feel like you hardly prepped, I recommend prepping more seriously and retaking the test. You never know how much you could improve, and a score even 40 points higher could mean all the difference. Good luck!
