I am currently a sophomore in high school and I’m trying to find ways to make my future application to Cornell as strong as possible.
Intended college/major: CALS / Animal Science
Practice ACT score (haven’t taken an official one yet): 33
PSAT Percentile: 99th (My selection index was a little low for my state though, not taken for official national merit scholar consideration)
Current weighted GPA: 4.36
ALL Core classes taken at honors and AP levels. Only non-honors classes were: four years of religion (required by school), two semesters of gym, one semester of health, one sem. web design, one sem. intro to art, and a summer class about the works of JRR Tolkien
APs (both taken already and planned):
- World History
- US History
- English Lang
- Environmental Science
- English Lit
- Chem
- Bio
- Spanish Language and Culture
- Calc AB (not sure if I’m going to take this one)
ECs:
- School literary magazine (participated four years, editor for three years)
- School newspaper (editor; only participated one year)
- Yearbook (possibly editor one or two years out of three participated)
- Scholastic Bowl team (participated four years, Captain as sophomore and senior)
- Environmental club (two years)
- Cycling club (two years)
- WYSE Academic Team (two years)
- Volunteered at an animal shelter for four years
- Volunteered at a therapeutic equestrian riding center for three years
- (Hopefully) Participated in Pet Partners as a therapy animal team with cat for two years
- Shadowed several veterinarians (one day each)
- NHS
- Spanish National Honor Society
Hook:
- Not sure yet, probably the therapy animal team thing if that works out or maybe the animal shelter thing? Any ideas or suggestions would be great.
Chance me? Thank you!
