Chance me for EA @ BC

I’m looking to go Early Action at BC intending to major in either Bio or Chem and doing Pre-Med.

I’m a White male going to a New England Prep School. I live in Massachusetts.

ACT:
Single: 32 Superscored:33
E:33 E:33
M:36 M:36
R:29 R:30
S:29 S:31

SAT II’s:
Math I: 740
Math II: 710
Physics: 730
Latin: 730

GPA: School doesn’t calculate cumulative GPA, but it would be something like…
Freshman- 3.65 Soph- 3.6 Junior- 3.8, solid curve from Soph to Junior year, began with a 3.5 and ended with a 3.95

Rank: School doesn’t officially rank, but top 10% (see Cum Laude below)

Only AP available before Junior year was AP Euro, didn’t take. However I took all available Honors courses; Honors Geometry Freshman year, Honors Chem and Alg II Sophomore year.

Junior Year:
AP Latin (5)
AP Physics (4)
Honors Precalc
US History
Junior English

Senior Year:
AP Bio
AP Stats
AP Calc AB
Senior English
Micro/Macroeconomics
-Independent study for AP Microeconomics exam

Notable Academic achievements:
Cum Laude Society- School does the first round of Cum Laude inductees in Senior Fall (first 10% of the total 20%). Indicates that based on Junior year performance I was in the top 10% of the class.
National Latin Exam- 3 Years Summa Cum Laude; Latin 2, Latin 3/4 Prose, and Latin 4 Poetry
High Honors every single quarter- Meh… for some reason our school has High Honors at a 3.3; at a 3.7 I would have high honors for 1 quarter Fresh and Soph year, and all Junior.

ECs:
-Summer Internship shadowing an Orthopedic Surgeon summer after Junior year
-Greek School 4 hours every Saturday for 11 Years
=>Perfect scores on the first two levels of the Greek Proficiency Examination administered by the Greek government
-Traditional Greek Dancing; 6th-11th grades 4-5 hours a week w/ live performances at a Greek cultural center in Boston
-Taught Greek to 1st and 2nd Graders; 8th-11th grade.
-Varsity/JV Soccer; JV 9th and 10th, Varsity 11th.
-Varsity/JV Indoor Track; JV 9th and 10th, Varsity 11th
-JV Track and Field; 9th-11th

Recommendations from AP Bio and AP Latin teachers…they’ll both be very good. Also getting one from the Surgeon that I shadowed; he went to the same high school I did and he’ll very likely say some good things.

Writing my essay on my summer shadowing experience and how that opportunity peaked my interested in a career in medicine. As of now I have it beginning like a narrative and showing one specific day in the OR, and how it changed my view of the medical field and why I’m now interested in it.

Strengths?Weaknesses? All replies welcome.

Anybody? =(

nobody?.. really… :(

you’re basically in.

Dear wnzgoe179 : Thought about commenting on your profile several times, but really did not think that there was much for others to glean from your profile. Clearly on the numbers alone, you are sitting in a nice position. Could your ACT sectional scores of 29 be stronger? Sure, but with superscoring, you should be fine.

The only trap I can see in your application is that your essay topic (“Medicine, the OR, and Me”) runs the risk of being very introverted; be sure that the topic allows you to demonstrate to a reader how you would add value to the Boston College campus. Remember to show how you will impact or lead others in your passions.

[There is a simple test that “I” always used with my two children that were part of Boston College undergraduate classes : How many sentences in your essay start with “I” or include an “I” sentence fragment? If more than 25% of your essay is an “I” piece, you are likely pitching your essay to be “too much you” and “not enough us”. Think about it.]
