Chance Me for Early Action

Hi I am a white male senior in HS from Northern Georgia

My unweighted GPA is a 3.9 and my SAT was a 1610 (low I know). I also rank in the top 10 in my class.

By the end of my high school career I will have taken 5 AP classes and finished 2 dual enrollment classes at my local liberal arts college (that would be 6 credits). One was a political science class and the other was a psychology class, if that helps. I also participated in 3 honors courses and had 3 years of accelerated Math courses.

EC's include two years of varsity baseball and one year of Varsity Golf. I also spent many summers playing travel baseball, traveling throughout the Southeast.

3 years of Beta club (numerous community activities and I am now an executive committee member)

Chosen to be apart of the Junior Board of Directors of United Community Bank. The Junior Board is a leadership and community service program reserved for the academic elite of my school system. It also performs numerous community activities/services.

Member of the FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes)

For any awards: I was voted "best all around" by my fellow classmates.

Please someone help me out I’m freaking out lol

Early action? Probably not. They only look at GPA and test scores, maybe class rigor too. I had friends with 4.0+ gpas and 26 ACT and they were deferred EA. As for regular decision, you have a good chance.

For Early Action, UGA looks at 3 things. Unweighted GPA and rigor are most important. The third thing is test scores. I think you look very good for early action. You are above the mid-range for unweighted GPA and you are about average for rigor as the average student admitted last yaer had 6AP classes to their credit. Test scores are not as important as GPA and Rigor. This is explained on the UGA Admissions Blog.

Actually, I don’t think Unweighted vs. Weighted is so important. UGA has its own way of calculating GPA which is explained here… http://ugaadmissions.blogspot.com/2009/07/gpas-grades-and-reality.html

I know this post is old, but every time people ask Dr. Graves a question about calculating GPA, he sends them back to this post.

Here is the important paragraph: “UGA re-calculates all high school GPA’s, and it is based upon the individual grades (be it semester, trimester, full year, etc.) in all the academic classes based upon the grading scale at that school. In addition, we add .5 weight to every individual AP or IB grade (unless a weight has already been added to the individual grade), and calculate a GPA based upon a 4.00 scale. Every A is worth 4 points, every B is 3 points, etc. As I said before, our goal is to review everyone on a level playing field.”

Exactly, jocjarmom. I should have said “recalculated” rather than “unweighted.” I suppose my thinking is that the recalculation ends up with a GPA that is closer to “unweighted” than “weighted”- at least in the case of my daughter. An important point here though is that, contrary to what emorylegacy says, test scores are considered to a lesser degree than GPA and rigor.

And best of luck to all of those waiting to hear about Early Action! Wouldn’t it be great to have decisions soon?
