Very Good Essays, Recommendations and Interview

You’re certainly a very strong candidate–you have the grades and test scores to be competitive. Remember that Swarthmore places a lot of emphasis on the Why Swarthmore essay, so be sure to explain what makes Swarthmore a really good fit for you and why they would want to have you on campus.

Will you need financial aid? Swarthmore is not need-blind for internationals, so you’ll have better chances if you’re not applying for financial aid. But they do give financial aid to some internationals, so do apply for it if you need it.

Best of luck! Out of curiosity, where in the country are you? I was in Georgia earlier this year, and it’s a beautiful place. :)

I am from Tbilisi. In why swarthmore essay? I put emphasis on general engineering program and some engineering student clubs. Moreover, I am really addictied to movies , I wrote about my passions of film studies. I also wrote about student clubs (film society and college bowl) I will need aid more than $47,000. (unfortunately) :(

It is very hard to predict for an international student chances of getting in with financial aid. But your application seems very compelling. Depends on how many other people are applying from your country, Georgia, and from your corner of the world. But you have a very interesting background. Good luck with the Physics Olympiad.

Swarthmore has a growing (or it was growing until the current recession in 2008 and fiscal crisis that has overtaken all college endowments in the US) Media Studies and Film department. My son minored in Media studies there and he was very happy with the department and his professors. It has a lot of resources and he was very pleasantly surprised.
