-worked as a congressional page for the speaker of the house

essays/etc
-common app: probably the most inspiring piece of writing i have ever produced. talked about how i finally broke out of my shell and found life and purpose after cancer and never let it bring me down, how ive volunteered at cancer centers, american cancer society chose me to do cancer research at top university hospitals for several summers, my GS gold award was a seminar that brought together cancer patients and survivors and i gave a speech and it was the first time i told anyone (other then parents) about my battle
-supplement: thoughtful and definitely shows my fit and passion for studying the major i want, i worked very hard on it and its creative, shows im well rounded and ready to jump into my major
-recs: 2 teachers should be very thoughtful, 1 should be absolutely amazing, GC rec should be really supportive too she was my student council moderator so were buds, the speaker of the house insisted on writing me a rec for cornell so he sent it in and i read it, very kind and talks about how i thrive in a workplace (so something that isnt shown elsewhere in my app)

so wow that was a ton of information, but hopefully you had some fun learning about a neurotic teenager's life! i know i am stretch for this school but i think im a unique applicant, im well rounded and passionate with a compelling story and positive outlook on life :) plus you never know when you're that 1 in a million!

sooo all things considered, chance me for Cornell ED (college of agriculture and life science) as a biology and society major

anyone? ill chance you back asap if you leave a link

Wow, very unique. I think you have a very good shot at Cornell ED.

I think you have a good shot given your circumstances.

many thanks to you both
3 years ago i didnt even think college was an option, nonetheless making it to my senior year. cornell is truly my dream i really hope it works out.

Your story is so unique, I think you could even get into Harvard if you wanted, honestly.

Also, how do you ever have time to do all this??

haha i know my story is just so different, finally being the odd one out is going to help me i guess
but ohh i dont know about that haha but i really thank you for your input!

dont sleep + most of it is in the summertime, i really never take a break i love being busy
and my sports work out because their different seasons
oh and my school has a 1 hour period twice per week during the school day when clubs meet so i make it work!

anybody else? i appreciate every comment dearly. and if anyone disagrees with the aforementioned posts dont be afraid to say it, i wont take it personally!

You are definitely a competitive applicant, and your story makes you stand out from the rest. If you can, you should retake the ACT because that is the only thing that doesn’t make you stand out as much as all the other applicants. But if you can’t, that’s okay because your amazing extracurriculars compensate for it. I would say your chances are 8.5/10!

Chance me?

thanks so much!
yea i wish i had a 34 :frowning: but since im ED i cant take it again/i really dont think i could raise it anyways haha it took everything outta me to get a 33!
wow i didnt think my ecs were that awesome i always see people on this site being very picky about ecs so thanks again! :)

If Cornell doesn’t admit you, contest their decision. You are in…dealing with cancer and BEATING it is extremely inspirational. If anything, I’d shoot for higher schools lol.

wow that is such a kind thing to say. im quite the debater so i would contest! haha i dont know what higher schools there are, originally my dream since i was little was brown but i feel like it is so unattainable with a 8% acceptance  i really love cornell nonetheless

anybody else? so nervous -_-

I’d say 70-80% chance of being accepted. You should really stand out from the majority of other applicants. Good luck and let us know the results!

Ok, if Cornell doesn’t accept you it is truly their loss. You seem like an inspirational, driven, and passionate young woman, and I would bet everything that you will get accepted at Cornell.

Good luck :)

ranseurus: thank you! come December 15ish I will let you guys know! wow

smileykins: thank you dearly for those positive words! you are very kind and that is quite a reassuring thing to hear. many thanks :)

Extremely unique, I think you’re in. I really do. Best of luck! And even though your GPA wasn’t perfect those years, obviously you had a very good reason.
