Chance me for elite?

I am a rising senior and I attend a rigorous public high school.

University of Liggett Merit Scholar- I got one of 8 academic scholarships at a private high school and I attended for a semester. I left because it was not challenging enough, I had a 4.28.
Varsity hockey (two years). Starter and MVP. Recently quit, I was not enjoying the sport and wanted to focus on field hockey.
Varsity field hockey- Starter, MVP, All-state, will be captain this year
Varsity track- all-conference, all-region, state finalist
Student council senator and student activities director
WILLOW member
Interact Club (community service)
NHS
School paper- I am the managing editor of a very prestigious student-run paper at my school
I am a reporter for our local paper
Bible school instructor, volunteer at local soup kitchen. I don’t have hours for these because honestly I have been doing these my whole life and never really thought to.
I also have a more personal attachment to the community because a good friend of mine was killed this year and so I am writing my essays about her and the work I am doing in the community for her and the charity that was started in her honor for victims of violence.
Classical pianist- have competed in some competitions and festivals as well. 13 years of experience.
I have won awards in journalism and english. The journalism awards were at the state level, and I did pretty well, but the english awards were only for my school.
I was also a mentor for at-risk kids at my school in a program called Freshman Assist, which was a class every day where we worked to improve literacy in struggling freshmen.

I have just been accepted into a program at Northwestern for journalism. It’s 5 weeks long, on-campus, and seems to boost chances of admission by the looks of last years graduating class.

GPA- 4.4 (weighted)
4.24 (unweighted)
ACT-34 composite, 35 superscore
SAT II- US History- 780. I sat for Bio M and Lit but those are not in yet.
5 on AP US test, I am expecting 5s on all of the ones I sat for this year (see below) as they were not very challenging.

Current schedule (junior year)
Pre calc
Spanish II (I have 2 years of latin as well)
AP Lang
AP Biology
AP Gov/AP Econ
Advanced journalism II (our paper)
Freshman Assist
AP Psychology

I would have outstanding letters of rec, I have been assured by my teachers.

I am looking at Columbia, Yale, Brown, Duke, Notre Dame, Northwestern, Harvard, Johns Hopkins, NYU, etc. University of Michigan is my backup. I would be majoring in business, political science, or journalism. I’m currently undecided.

What do you think? Do I have a shot?
Thanks for your input!

You definitely have a shot at all of these Universities, however, make sure you throw in some desirable safeties if things don’t work out. I know you don’t want to think of a world where you get rejected from all of your top choices, but having backups is always a good decision.

I’m a legacy at Michigan (mom and dad) and most kids at my school who attend there have considerably weaker stats. I also honestly love the campus, and am hoping for a possible Ross pre-admit

Oh, Michigan is essentially a safety then.

Looks good to me. Just out of a fellow journalists curiosity what state are you in? You look a lot like me! I would say you are a low reach for harvard, brown, duke, columbia and yale just because so is everyone else. You are pretty well matched for northwestern, Johns Hopkins, NYU and U. Mich. If you’re are looking at J schools you should also really consider UNC Chapel Hill. They just won Hearst Grand Champion award (considered the pulitzer of college journalism along with the pacemakers which they won two years ago);

I really don’t think U Mich should be your safety. The game is really arbitrary in 2016

My school sends about 25 per year to UMich and I think I am currently around 3/322 in my class for GPA

Do you live in Michigan? If yes, it’s probably a safety. If not, it’s probably not.

I do!
