Chance me for Exeter and Culver

I just got my SSAT scores and I don't know if they'll be good enough.

Applying for 10th grade

I'm a straight A student.

I'm Chinese Female living in Michigan.

My high school is pretty bad though.

I have participated in track (1yr), NJHS(1 yr), Journalism/Yearbook(1yr), Choir(2 yrs), Science Olympiad(1 yr) Student Council(3 yrs), Spanish(1 yr) GSA(1 yr), Natural Helpers(1 yr), and tutor middle schoolers a few days per week(2 yrs).

I can speak Chinese decently.

Great Attendence record(only missed 1 or 2 days of school)
Honor Roll since 6th grade
Science Olympiad Award (8th Grade)6th place
Math Prosolve Award (6th Grade)

Did my recs and 2 teachers let me see theirs. One was amazing and the other one pretty good. Almost all 1st row checks except for a couple.

Did my interview for Culver(phone) and was okay. Going to do Exeter Interview tomorrow(any tips?)

SSAT Score:
Verbal: 87%
MAth: 80%
Reading: 74%

Overall: 86%

Am applying for Battens Scholarship for Culver.

Do you think I can can get into Culver or Exeter or get the scholarship?

I think they're great. Make sure you have a good interview.

I think your ECs are solid, but for Exeter, I'd watch those SSAT scores. They're great, but pretty mediocre (average @ Exeter is 85, overall) compared to your other competitors. I still think you stand a great chance, so best of luck!

dive, mind saying where you read the 85 average statistic?

@ istoleyournose! :
oh dear lord.
now i look like a liar. D:
i can't find it via google, or any other cached search engine right now.
i searched, um, average SSAT percentile exeter and apparently you were supposed to ask the admissions office and that the average was 85, and that andover was 92 or 93 or something, but now i can't find that link so i look like a great big liar !

'kay, i can't find the source right now, & i only ever go on 3 websites related to boarding school admissions and this is by far the most active so it SHOULD be on here if you look close enough, but i'll keep looking & i'll pm you if i find it !
eeeek. i'm reaaally sorry! i'll keep looking D: (because uncited sources suck. i know.)

No problemo, but if you do find it be sure to PM me with it because I really would like to know. Thank yoo

Exeter: High Reach; your SSATs are problematic and your ECs are not great. Most of them are for only 1 year which indicates that you don't have a passion (I know I am a broken record, but this is very important.) Asian applicants have a tougher time due to sheer numbers.

You should be a shoo-in for Culver; their average SSAT is in the 50s last time I looked. I'm not sure what the qualifications for the scholarship are.

i have to agree with wowsa on this,
i got an 87 on the ssat last year and i was applying for sophomore year just like you are now. i'm asian too and i was waitlisted last year. i know people like to say that the ssat doesn't matter a whole lot compared to the rest of the application but in truth it does matter a lot. exeter will be a high reach but i don't know a whole lot about culver so I can't really say anything on that.

I think its safe to say...if your asian you BETTER be in the 90s.

Thank You for responding everyone! I wish I had more solid EC's, but anything supported from school was only for 8th grade. Anything new is starting in 9th grade. Track was the one thing that could have lasted longer, but I had no interest in it. Oh well, I just hope I can get into Culver or Exeter.
