Chances for Exeter

I'm a current 8th grader in a public school applying for the fall of 2014 freshman year:

Straight A+ student (which is 98%-100%)

I know that both my english and math teacher will give good recommendation letters

I am currently taking Algebra II/trig., honors science, honors english, Latin II, honors civics, and strings

I do debate club (2 years exp.), math club (I do fairly well in competitions i.e over 110 on AMC 10), science olympiad (2nd place in our chapter), Latin certamen (competition) club, and piano (8 years of experience).

However, I don't do sports (I do for recreational purposes)

My SSAT scores are pretty decent; I score 99 percentile math, ~94 percentile verbal, and ~94 percentile reading (these are based off of practice tests, I will be taking the SSAT in October)

And, that's all I can think of off the top of my head. Thanks in advance!

Edit: I'm also applying to Andover, Choate, and Deerfield

Hey! I graduated from Exeter in June 2013. I think you have a good chance of getting in. Have you gone to campus for an interview/tour yet?

No, I live too far away; I’ll do a skype interview instead.

So, I don’t do any sports (I’m pretty athletically fit, it’s just that I don’t have time)-- will that hinder my chances?

Actually, I’m signing up for our track and field club; we’ll be running 5ks eventually.

I didn’t do any sports and it didn’t hinder my chances at all - they would rather you have depth than breadth.

Lastly, would my chances be hindered by being an asian living in Virginia (not sure if many people apply in Virginia) who’s applying for financial aid?

Try not to worry about weaker things. Exeter really likes to get students from the South and West. They have a huge endowment and a lot of financial aid to give. As much pressure as you may feel, do your best to show them what you love, and don’t worry about being “well-rounded”. They’d much rather have a student who’s incredibly passionate about their two extracurriculars than a student who does ten but can’t really explain why they’re so important to them.
Your grades are great, as well as your SSAT scores, but those don’t really affects admissions too much, unless they’re really low (which they aren’t). But, really, without meeting you, it’s really hard to know. And a huge part of admission is random. So many qualified applicants apply each year, of which you are one, and they cannot accept them all. Good luck!

So I got my SSAT scores back; 99 percentile!!!
Also, I’m now captain of debate club, but because of this, I can’t do latin club(the teacher will still allow me to compete).
btw can anyone give me any tips for the interview and essays?
