Im applying for Grade 10 for the 2010-2011 school year. I'm an 8th Grader Now. I go to a public middle school now. Soon to be in public high school.

Grades: A- to A+ in all subjects in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade

Classes: Next year I'm taking all advanced classes except in English

SSAT: I'm sure I could get 90-99 percentile - haven't taken it yet

EC's: Tennis, Student Council, Math Team, Spanish Club, Science Club, Multiple Honor Societies

Volunteering: I plan to volunteer at a local library this summer

Summer: I'm going to also take some summer classes at my high school

Interview: The thing im most worried about

Essay: I think I could write a pretty nice one

Financial Aid: I will need full

What do you think I have for chances?
And is there anything more I should do?

What schools are you applying for?
pretty nice stats btw

I think you have a great shot for Exeter! Your grades and classes are excellent, your ECs are solid (what is you level of tennis?), and you do a lot of volunteering. However, you need to show your personality and strengths through your interviews and essays, and that will be a really big deciding factor for the Exeter admissions office, as will the teacher recs.

You should also check out other schools, since you need full FA (Exeter isn’t need blind), such as Andover, it was need blind this year) Boardingschoolreview.com is a good resource! Hope I helped a bit!! :)

Thanks for the help guys!

Any more constructive criticism?

how many hours are you planning on volunteering?
are the summer classes challenging, or counted for credits(high school/college)?

I’ll probably volunteer like 10 hours a week during the summer

and the classes are challenging

does it help that someone related to me went to exeter?

Yes! That is a very big help, as far as I know. As long as it’s not the cousin of the husband of your mother’s mother in law’s brother (something like that. haha. idk if I make sense). :)

Just be honest and interesting during your interview and you’ll be fine! Don’t sit there looking uncomfortable and generating questionable answers. Make your interviewer laugh and ENJOY talking to you. Anything to get you to stand out is good.

What milkandcookies said is pretty much what I did. My corny jokes made my interviewer laugh, surprisingly. (I was like, I like to sing, but I don’t think songs like me. ha. ha.)

haha niceee asiankid! Ya, during one of my interviews I answered the question “what is your favorite subject?” by saying “… and biology has also really grown on me…” and my interviewer said “no pun intended…ha…ha…ha…” and I went “wha–?” and he said “get it?” and then I got it… (really bad pun alert)

Anyway, that is my ‘connecting with the interviewer’ story.

any suggestion on the questions I should ask

if i use up all mine or if i forget mine or if i dont have any

Thanks milkandcookies. (I love the sn btw.)

haha. Oh, I have another good one.
“Geology rocks!” hahaha

Mhm, I’m not really sure what to suggest. Well, for me, when my interviewer asked me if I have any questions, I asked them how they help students when they have problems wit homework. That’s the only q I asked. haha. I just told them that I made extensive researches, joined forums and talked to students, so I really know everything there is to know about the school…
