Chance me for Flagler, FSU, etc... (visually impaired, displaced, first-gen student)

Hi! I have my heart set on Flagler College - St. Augustine, and am starting to get really worried. My SAT score sends were delayed for a bit and just sent today, completing my application, while my classmates have all heard back already. Out of six people none of them got in. It seemed so odd to me, I didn’t think Flagler was so selective but I’m getting anxious.

I’ve applied to all colleges as a business/management major and have been working in a business program at a technical college for my senior year. The classes are scored as electives (which I mention later).

My stats are:
1360 SAT (630 Math, 730 Reading & Writing) & and a 22 on the essay (7,8,7)
3.4 unweighted GPA
3.9 weighted, with two APs
GPAs are not including this recent semester which was all As and honors)

I’ve done DE at a technical school for three years but the classes get scored as electives, I included my certifications:
Microsoft Word 2016, Word Expert 2016, PowerPoint 2016, Outlook 2016, Excel 2016, Excel Pro 2016, Access 2016, Photoshop CC

I’ve been in student government and been in a leadership position every year:
Freshman Class Representative
Student Body Treasurer
Student Government Association President

I started and ran the school Music Club, work with Relay for Life every year, and am on prom committee.

Outside of school I work two jobs to support my family and am in severe financial need. I’m a first-generation college student and my family was displaced by Hurricane Irma.

I’ve been visually impaired since I was twelve. I worked with the DBS and the Lighthouse for the Blind and was a counselor in a camp for visually impaired/blind kids. All through high school I’ve been told that they would be paying my full cost for college, but about a month ago my DBS representative came to my IEP meeting to inform me that the rules have changed and because I chose to get a job instead of going on disability I no longer qualify for any of their financial aid.

The other colleges I’ve applied to are:
FSU
UF
UCF
Saint Leo University
Johnson & Wales University - Miami-Dade
FIU
Keiser University - Flagship Campus
Mercer University - Macon
Ohio University - Main Campus

I’m just really worried about what I’m going to do. I’ve been working so hard, working full-time while keeping with studies and extra-curricular, and halfway through my senior year I was told that I should have taken the easy way out. If anyone can chance me for Flagler, or any colleges on this list, I would really appreciate it!

Your stats seem to fit the Flagler freshman profile. I’d say you have a really good chance of getting in. As for the other school’s, here are my opinions (I’ll do the Florida schools I know well):

FSU- Probably (match)
UF- Probably not (reach)
UCF- Probably (match)
FIU- Probably (match)

You have a great SAT score. Your GPA isn’t perfect, but you should be able to get into most of the colleges on your list. I think you have a great chance for Flagler as long as your delayed SAT scores don’t mess something up. The only school that really stands out as iffy is UF. Good luck, hope this helps.

Thanks! I honestly would not go to UF if admitted, I only applied because they sent me a fee waiver and my mom was interested in me attending. I’ve never felt like the school was a good fit for me.

You should be able to get admitted to UCF , FIU , Johnson & Wales , and FSU. UF really loves seeing extra curricular activities combined with high scores so maybe that too.

You should try FAU in Boca Raton as well if it’s not too late. I attend here and work at the disabilities office , we have great resources and advisors here. The office has a computer lab and testing rooms, you should be able to get a notetaker for your classes, also you can get an on-campus job (usually $10/hr for office jobs) or work in surrounding areas. If you have questions just let me know!

Thank you! My sister actually attends FAU and loves being an owl, but I’ve visited a few times and the area is just not for me. Really busy areas like Boca Raton put me on edge and I get migraines easily. I applied to J&W just to have the option but it is definitely not high on my list.

Update:

I got a letter from Keiser yesterday, my first response and they had “congratulations!” on the outside of the envelope. Not only did I get accepted, I’ve been awarded a $36,000 scholarship ($9,000/year)!

And I just now checked my UCF portal to see that I was deferred. The portal also noted to send in anything I haven’t already sent in, referring to my AP test scores I believe. Honestly the entire admissions process has been a nightmare and took me two and a half months to complete because the admissions office wouldn’t process my fee waiver, answer the phone, or reply to my e-mails. I’m going to call them and ask if they received all of my documents, and if they can tell me why I may have been deferred.

You win some you lose some I guess.

Update:

I’ve been accepted to:
Keiser - West Palm ($)
Johnson and Wales - North Miami ($)
Ohio U - Main Campus ($)
Mercer U - Main Campus ($)
FSU (no $)
Flagler College ($)
UF - Innovation Academy ($ not released)

I chose not to finish my applications for Saint Leo, FIU, and UNF.

Still deferred at UCF, roll my eyes every time I check. I sent in my mid-year transcripts so whatever happes there happens.

The decision right now is between Flagler and UF.

Update: I was offered a spot on the waitlist at UCF. I’m just gonna shrug that off I guess.
