Chance me for full rides... my family won't contribute despite a six-figure income!

UGA (Foundation Fellows)
GA Tech (President's Scholars)
UNC-Chapel Hill (Carolina Scholars)
Emory (Emory Scholars)
Vanderbilt (Cornelius Vanderbilt Scholars)
Duke (Angler B. Duke Scholars)

Family only offering $10k/year, so scholarships are necessary at all except UGA and GA Tech. (Student loans are not an option.) I may not apply to Duke if it is basically impossible for me to receive scholarship money; I kind of need help deciding whether I should apply or not.

Any help is greatly appreciated! Thank you for your time.

Essays: Awesome. I write really good, original essays.
Recommendations: Very good. From my AP Biology teacher who also is an EC sponsor of mine, prides herself in giving very good recommendations.

University of Alabama is giving a lot of full rides, I hear. You might investigate.

I would suggest, given your amazing math score, that you double-major in English/creative writing and a math-based field, like maybe engineering (or even minor in engineering of some kind). You are obviously smart. Why not use that for perhaps more job security than a creative writing degree can give you? Not that you would not be employable if you majored in creative writing, but if you have a second major, you would be more familiar with whatever that field would be, and it would help in snaring creative writing jobs, and also it could tide you over (pay the bills) if you could work in another industry while finding writing jobs.

Or else consider taking courses to be a technical writer, until you start getting published or whatever.

Also, are you FUNNY? WITTY? In all seriousness, CONSIDER WRITING STORIES FOR KIDS, A LA BRIAN JACQUES.

There is a HUGE niche for funny writers who can spin a good yarn and keep kids engaged. You would also be doing youngsters a real service.

I owe Brian Jacques a huge debt as his books, which my son read and re-read, are the reason my son read at the 12.9 (high school graduating senior) level in 7th grade.

I would like to become a playwright, as it stands. I love theatre; I could never think of abandoning it. (This is a topic I use a ton in my essays.) I am extremely attached to acting, however, I do not feel as though I am talented nor prepared enough for it, seeing as I only began theatre no more than two years ago.

I feel as though my writing is, by far, my most polished skill, and I see writing plays as a medium for expressing the emotion I have pursued so greatly in theatre.

I imagine I will write short stories as well, perhaps even a novel.

Yeah, I have considered double majoring in a more profitable subject... however, I plan on writing being my largest focus.

How could your parents not help out at all, even with that high income?

I was sort of in the same position as you. By the way check out UPitt, I just got full tuition from there and my stats are a bit lower than yours.

But as far as the colleges you asked for, I'll venture a guess that you have a good chance for UGA, and a moderately good chance for UNC, especially since it's not for the Pogue which I hear is a bit harder to receive.

So is there even a shred of a chance for me to get scholarship money from Duke? Or should I just not apply at all, since I can't go without the money?

As far as GaTech, did you apply by 10/1 or 10/31? I know my d's heard that she's a semi finalist for the President's scholarship, but she applied by 10/1. I don't know if all the kids who applied by 10/31 have heard yet.
