Chance me please! And be mean! I’m strong, I can take it [I hope…]!

Ethnicity: Asian
Gender: Female
State: California
School Type: Kindof crappy public

GPA: 3.96 [damn you, Honors English!] unweighted/ 4.35 weighted
SAT: 780 CR/ 800 M/ 780 W
ACT: heck no.
SAT II: 800 Chem/ 800 Math II/ 750 USH/ …740 Bio [btw, will this hurt me if my major is bio-ish?]
Rank: Top 4% forsure. Probably higher?
Class size: 400
APs: Bio [5], Stats [5]. My school doesn’t offer that many. And yeah, I know I could’ve self-studied. Shut up.
AMC12: 97.5 [ALMOST AIME qualifier, dammit!]

Senior classes: AP Calc…AB [Fail, but we don’t have BC!], Honors English, Honors Gov/Econ, Honors Physics, Leadership [basically student gov.], Psychology, and….Ceramics [you see, UCs require an art class and I haven’t taken one yet! And yeah, I could’ve done it over the summer. Again, shut up. XD]

Extracurrics:
-Color Guard [I toss flags with the marching band]: 12th
-Piano: 9th, 10th, 11th. To be honest, I wasn’t very good, meaning I didn’t enter competitions. But who has to know, right?
-Student Gov: 11th, 12th. Class secretary/treasurer right now. Woot.
-Hospital Volunteer: 11th, 12th. I have a leadership position. Yay.

-Interned at this small pharmaceutical company during the summer after 10th grade.
-Interned at the Scripps Research Institute for part of the summer after 11th grade.

Work:
-Math tutor at Kumon: 11th grade

Awards:
-Academic letter [schoolwide]
-Lamp of Knowledge [schoolwide]
-some small piano stuff

Other stuff:
Essays: yeahhhh, about those… ahaha. But I think that when I actually get around to writing them, they’ll be at least decent.
Teacher Recs: One is from aforementioned Honors English teacher. The other is from my sophomore/current math teacher. They both liked me, I guess. Hopefully their recs will be good.
Counselor Rec: I have no idea. She doesn’t seem to favor anyone, really…

My schools are pretty....out there. Most of the ivies, Stanford, MIT, Duke, UChicago, UC Berkeley/LA/San Diego/Davis.

What are you waiting for!? CHANCE ME!! please... XD

Get cracking on those essays lol!! Okay UofChicago as well as the UCs, I think you will be admitted especially since you are California resident to the UCs. For MIT, it will be a reach because of your lack of Math/Science awards but don’t fret, your application shines nevertheless :-). For the Ivies, I can definitely see you getting into one or possible more! Overall, you are likely to gain admittance into your choice schools :-). Chance me? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/816473-chance-aa-female-elite-schools-updated-stats.html</a> (Also chance me@ yale as well as the rest of the colleges listed)

weaknesses: lack of APs, lack of awards, lack of leadership positions in ECs
strengths: SAT, SAT IIs, rank, internships, research –> paper (cool stuff btw)

Stanford - not much leadership, so high-reach
MIT - you’re only in AB Calc, and you have a lack of math/science awards, so high-reach
Duke - match
UChicago - match
UC Berkeley/LA/San Diego/Davis - I think match

lol I’m not trying to be harsh at all! you have a great app and your strengths are clearly visible…but your weaknesses are too (for Ivies).

if you returned the favor I’d really appreciate it.
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/818137-chance-me-emory-columbia-yale-etc-will-chance-back.html</a></p>

thanks guys! :D

BUMPPPPPPPPPPPPP.

HYPS - reach as they are for everyone, but you should get into 1/4, great EC’s
MIT - see above
Duke - High Match
Chicago - Match
UC’s - all in

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/819376-chances-top-business-schools.html</a></p>

In/match at the UC’s. Ivies are reaches…for all! Duke and Chicago are matches/low reaches.

Chance me also? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/802020-texas-has-bison-but-vermont-has-ski-slopes-where-shall-i-end-up.html</a></p>

HYP - reach
Stanford - reach
MIT - reach
Other ivies - I think you’ve got a shot
Duke - low reach/high match
UChicago - I think you’re in, but you need stellar essays
UC Berkeley/LA/San Diego/Davis. - in everywhere

Your research is very solid, so try to play that up in your essays. I think you’ll be seeing several acceptance letters. Good luck and thanks for chancing me!

Stanford- Low reach

Stanford- reach
MIT-high reach
HPY- high reach
other ivies- low reach… to mid reach
Duke- high match
UChicago- high match
UC’s- probably match/in =)

Your test scores definitely aren’t holding you back. I think that the only thing really holding you back (assuming you took as many AP’s as you could, you do mention that your school doesn’t offer many) is a lack of leadership shown. You should elaborate more on research and how that has affected you, since I’m seeing an apparent interest in research. Have you considered Johns Hopkins? They’re consistently ranked #1 in research spending, and if that is something you might enjoy, you might fit in well there.

I’m pretty sure you’re in most UC’s, but as an above poster mentioned, a lack of math/science might make MIT a bit of a reach. Chancing for HYPS is basically shooting in the dark, but I think you have a decent shot, and have a high chance of getting into at least one of them (I’m sure at least one of them will value the fact that you’ve done a lot of research AND have phenomenal test scores). I’d probably say Duke and UChicago are both matches.

Stanford-High Match
MIT-High Match/Reach
Duke-Low Match/Match
UChicago-Low Match
UC Berkeley/LA/San Diego/Davis-In
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/803462-my-chances-brown.html</a></p>

That is a ridiculously good SAT score. Very nice.
I agree with Sangwoo Kim’s assesment.

thankssss. :]

i’m also sending an extra rec from my research mentor and an abstract explaining what i did [to the schools that want it!], but i dont know if this will help much.
and also, the people i was working with at the two places i interned at teamed up and wrote a paper, cited me as a research contributor, and submitted it to this big name scientific journal [Nature], but i dont know how much this will help either.

mehhhhh. college…just accept me already! D:

thanks! GO CAL!

Duke- match
UChicago- match
UC Berkeley/LA/San Diego/Davis- match x3/ in for davis
