I am a prospective international business major. I only have a 2.7 W GPA, but that was largely due to the struggles I experienced as a sophomore (eviction). My grades have improved in the last marking period, and my PSAT score of 1580 indicates that I do indeed have lots of raw potential. I am in lots of clubs: YDC, Support Our Troops, Gifts of Gold, Smiles for Seniors, Helping Hands Club and Water for Africa club. I also plan on creating and running a Geography Club next year. I have significant hooks: ethnic status (Nigerian-American), the aforementioned sophomore year eviction, and being a miracle baby (born three months premature and was featured on Eyewitness News with Diana Williams). My highest predicted SAT score is a 1790.

Using each score, what are my chances of acceptance into:
- Monmouth University
- Quinnipiac
- Hofstra
- Pace
- Bentley University
- Gannon University

Only requests I have are to use both my PSAT score and my highest predicted SAT score, to research each school before commenting "I don't know", and complete honesty! Thanks in advance! :)

Well i dont know much about those schools so i cant chance you, however your GPA is a little low. When applying it might help to write an essay or explanation in regard to your eviction and how it impacted your grades. Also, your ECs and service work is very good so that’s a huge plus.

@sloth83 thanks for the acknowledgement! I’ll definitely be sure to write an explanation on my essay! Oh, and I forgot; shortly before my eviction, I organized a vigil and tribute page on Facebook for a friend in my school who passed away.

I don’t know much about these universities but your GPA seems quite low, you should try explaining yourself in the essay without it sounding as if it wasn’t your fault. Make it seem like you acknowledge what happened and you grew from it.

@UNgirl of course what happened wasn’t my fault. But you’re indeed right, I’m going to say in my essay that I did grow from it, and it prepared me for the world.

Also, in a school application, should I talk about how much I would love to attend, or my background? Because I’ve read that Monmouth accept the Common App (which is up to 650 words) but they want a short essay of up to 500 words.

I know nothing about these schools. But GPA seems very low and will likely be your largest hurdle. WHat’s your UW GPA? That’s what matters. Your ECs seem alright. And obviously you haven’t taken standardized tests yet. It’s great your starting a club! That will help. I wish I was more helpful to you! Sorry! Good luck!

@picklechicken37 my UW GPA is a 2.6. I’ll be taking SAT Prep courses later this month, and I honestly can’t wait so I can prepare to reach my target score, maybe even further! Thanks for the advice!

I think the best thing for you to do is to invest time in writing the best possible essay you can explain what you have been through and why you think that will assist in your post - colligate ventures.

The only school I know among these is Bentley and I think 2.7 W GPA is very low. I think Bentley will be a high reach. You should really try hard to bump your grades and your SAT scores to 1800+.
