Low GPA, high SAT - chance me for Harvard, John Hopkins, Tufts? I'll chance back!

Alright so I did this thread before but it was missing a few things.. and it won't let me edit so here's an 'updated' version. ;D

What are my chances..

IF: (because SAT #'s and some other factors are projected)

GPA - 3.55 unweighted, and 3.8 weighted. I slacked off in both freshman and sophomore years, but managed to get straight As and A+s in junior year with 3 AP classes first semester and 4 second semester.

PSAT: 235
SAT: 2400

SAT Math II subject: 800
SAT English subject: 800
SAT Spanish subject: 750

Senior year course load: AP English, AP calculus, AP Physics, AP Political Science, AP economics, AP Spanish, AP Computer Science

And when I send in senior year quarter/semester grades, I have straight As and A+s as well

Extra:
Academic Decathlon
Spanish club - president
National Spanish Award
Nation merit award of the PSAT
Future Business Leaders of America (won awards)
Team Kids (community service club)
Peace of mind (community service club)
Pink Ribbon Club
Robotics Club
Book Club
300 hours of community service
Work experience: tutoring math and tutoring SAT prep

4 glowing teacher recommendations and an outstanding essay (and awesome video supplement for Tufts)

2 excellence awards from teachers in junior year both semesters

Race: Other Asian

Out of these schools (Dartmouth, NYU, Tufts, John Hopkins, Cornell, Harvard, UC Berkeley, UCLA, Carnegie Mellon) which might I be able to get into?

I basically want to know the most prestigious school I can get into.. I know Harvard is wayyy out of hand, but I want to know if there's any possibility still?

Also I have a question - would including your IQ score (tested by Mensa) add to the application or would admissions officers just not care at all?

Thanks in advance ;D

I think you have a decent shot at UCLA and maybe NYU, but not sure about the Ivy’s… your GPA might be too low, but your scores are amazing!
I’m not sure where you would even put in your IQ on the common app… if it’s exceptionally high, maybe, if not, then dont

Jesus christ that SAT score is ridiculous… teach me your ways
ANYWAY

Dartmouth - Reach
NYU- Low Match
Tufts-Match
John Hopkins-Match
Cornell-Low reach (IK someone with 2390 and 4.0 gpa who got rejected, it’s all down to the essay once you reach a certain score i suppose)
Harvard- High reach
UC Berkeley-High Match (Cali in state?)
UCLA-High Match (Cali in state?)
Carnegie Mellon-Match/Reach (I’d have to know what course you are applying for :/)

I would ED cornell with those scores as you seem to like prestige and I think you would get it with solid essays

Bump ;D

I don’t really feel like I could chance you for each school individually, but when I see an app like yours, I mostly feel like you’re a smart kid that doesn’t apply themselves in an academic environment, like you know, college. Unless you can explain your low GPA with some problem in your background (family pressures, financial stress, personal traumas, etc.) I think you would only really get as far as matching the UCs. I don’t think any of the really prestigious colleges would be that interested unless you have a compelling explanation for how you are different from the incredibly large amount of intelligent kids with good scores who don’t work hard in class.

Very strong candidate in my opinion one of the best I’ve seen so far today, impressed with the perfect sat score in both subjects, but the only thing I saw is your gpa is average, so that can penalize you. But average isn’t always bad, I think it all comes down to your essay that will save you, I read in another post that you would try and make it more interesting by joining the guy’s football team and writing about it, that seems interesting so go for it!!,I would say your in for NYU, UCLA, Harvard I’d say 30% if your lucky, Cornell I think your in because my cousin got accepted and is nowhere near your sat score lol, goodluck!! Update us!! ;D

Great SAT score! Although this does show an upward trend, the Ivys obviously would prefer another student with similar testing scores and a 4.0 gpa, so the competition is real. Your ECs are pretty average, so just make sure your essays are on point. These schools IMO are reaches except for UCLA, JHU, and NYU.
Please chance back! http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1672761-chance-me-for-stanford-university.html</a></p>

Except that according to her other thread she’s a junior and hasn’t done half of this yet…

So the upward trend is really important. If you haven’t written your common app essay yet, or in some other part of the app, you need to explain how you were bored/ uninterested freshman and sophomore year and how you worked to improve junior year. Your smart, wicked smart. But the acceptance rate for Brown with a 2400 is still (they say) 30% and you have to guess that those kids are pretty qualified in other areas. So, you’re unique. It’s not to say your gpa will keep you out. I think your testing, for the most part, will make up for it. But you do need to explain some reason why you struggled, and how you overcame it to be in a good position in your class. Just my two cents. I’d say you’re in at cals and NYU, maybe tufts. The others are toss ups, but they’re true toss ups you’ll be competitive anywhere except hyps and you may still get in there.

I’m sorry, but have you actually taken the SAT yet or is your 2400 an idealized score you will get since you just started your Junior year in high school?

Almost everyone I know who was accepted by UCB and/or UCLA had a close to perfect if not perfect GPA. I also know a few rejected students with a close to perfect GPA and a 2300+/35+ SAT/ACT score.

Because of your upward trend, your UC GPA is not too bad, so I think you should aim for UCSD, UCD, UCI, and UCSB. With your low overall GPA, most of the schools on your current list are out of your reach.

Assuming your IF comes true  and an extraordinary essay
You seem to have been a “perfect” application test score wise, but your GPA hurts you big time, (college application might think that you only got lucky test scores, or is just a slacker) but your ECs are also pretty good
Dartmouth - low reach/math
NYU - low match, this can be your safety
Tufts - match
John Hopkins - match
Cornell - low reach/reach
Harvard - high reach
UC Berkeley - reach
UCLA - low reach
Carnegie Mellon - low reach.
Could you chance me here? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1698034-please-chance-an-international-applicant-for-top-schools-will-chance-back-if-asked-d.html#latest</a></p>

@Sue22 @mnm111 @1939er ~ No, that is my real SAT score. The only things that are idealized on this is my GPA, which I calculated to include junior year grades (I’m assuming that I’m going to get straight As) and my PSAT score, which I took last week. I missed one math problem on the PSAT, so I’m assuming I’ll receive a 235. But my SAT, subject tests, and extracurriculars are for certain. @1939er if all you are going to do is hate on posts to take out whatever anger you have towards your life on people here, then please get off College Confidential.

@1939er I’m referring to your posts on my question about football - the one in which you said “Reading this thread annoyed me so bad, how in the world does anyone think of this garbage?” And alright, thanks anyway for your response on this post. I do have backups - UC Riverside and Davis, Chapman.

All these posts and opinions are completely different (bump) ?

@kittycatyeah My point stands. You are a first semester junior with a 3.55 UW GPA through your first two years, which means you do not have:

A’s in your junior and senior year
NMS (although it sounds likely from your SAT score)
Excellence awards both semesters in your junior year
Glowing recommendations
An outstanding essay

p.s., I do not consider “I tried out for the no-cut football team on a lark then didn’t play in a single game” a particularly compelling topic for an admissions essay and I can’t imagine admissions officers will either. The gender barrier in football was broken decades ago.

<a href=“Girls tackling football across the country - ESPN - ESPNHS Girl- ESPN”>http://espn.go.com/blog/high-school/girl/post/_/id/462/girls-tackling-football-across-the-country</a></p>

Turns out the OP’s 2400 SAT is fake too. From her post on another thread:

Kid, please stop wasting everyone’s time.

The SAT and GPA is very disconnect if you really have 2400. It’s actually bad news if you do.

@sue22 I took the test in October, I know my score! And as for excellence awards, students with As in my school receive them every semester (so I’ll be receiving them for sure unless I somehow get Bs, which won’t happen) and I already know exactly which teachers to ask for my recommendations. As for NMS, I know for sure that I’ll be at the very least a semifinalist. Please stop trying to prove me wrong; I didn’t ask this question to read BS responses like this!

I am VERY,VERY sure-and it’s true- that if you have SAT 2400 score, as @DrGoogle‌ already said, it will HURT you;
Colleges prefer applicants with high GPA with a bit less SAT(in Ivy league standard), not low GPA with High SAT.
GPA is the best indicator of your diligence and effort, and if you have low GPA with high SAT score, that will only make you look(not saying you are. How am I supposed to know that?) like a student who has good brain but doesn’t show enough effort in your classes. What admission officers would like people who are not hardworking in their classes?
