EDIT: I swear I posted this in the What Are My Chances forum but for some reason it automatically went to the “Harvard University” forum??
I already got accepted into Stanford but I’m doing Harvard RD and was curious as to what my chances are.
Objective:
SAT I (breakdown): 1590
Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): Uhh like 3.5? It wasn’t very high
Senior Year Course Load: Full IB diploma program.
Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): Just some international music awards, nothing TOO big.
Extracurriculars:
-Co-founder entrepreneur group (started up and sold 1 company)
-Rugby (scouted by Stanford)
-Track and Field (provincially ranked, didn’t make it to the national level)
-Research (published 1 paper and won several regional awards)
-Piano (internationally ranked)
-HSMUN
-Debate (just some minor awards)
-Peer tutoring
-Student council
Job/Work Experience: Piano teacher
Volunteer/Community service: Unicef, local community charity events, tutoring, a lot of in school stuff
Summer Activities: Research at university, work, volunteering, summer school (I KNOW LOL)
You did, but single-college chance threads belong in the respective college forum, so another moderator moved it. There is still a redirect link in What Are My Chances.
^^OP, if Stanford is your dream school which already accepted you why bother with Harvard? To answer your question about chance, I think your application must be a very strong one as it gained Stanford SCEA; it should have a much better chance than the average 3% RD rate, perhaps by a factor of ten like 30%? Still, its Harvard, nothing can be taken for granted. From my personal experience I have known several “internationally ranked pianist” Asian females like you, that have been accepted by Stanford but declined by Harvard. If your admission to S had a lot to do with your piano awards H may be a taller order IMO.
and vice versa. And you can substitute any 2 colleges with <10% acceptance rates in that sentence. For the most part, there is no correlation between acceptance at school A vs. school B. Where there is a correlation, none of us will know what it is because we are not AO’s.
Were you recruited by Stanford for rugby (scouted?) ?: Since obviously if you were recruited as an athlete, that would have given you a greater chance of acceptance by Stanford. But asking for chancing on acceptance to Harvard for RD is moot IMHO since many of the best of the best applicants have been rejected by either schools. So the only thing we can say is yes you do have a chance, but it’s really anyone’s guess if you have a good or bad chance. However with a gpa of 3.5 in an unhooked applicant may pose a problem. I know of an elite athlete being recruited to Harvard with a 3.8 gpa raised the eyebrow of the AO, however the applicant was from a rigorous private school and they “let it pass”
