Hi, I’m interested in UMTC, specifically their physiology major. I wanted to gauge the how difficult it is to become an honor student. I’m from WI which has reciprocity with MN. Here are my stats:
GPA: 3.992 (one A-)
ACT: 32
Extracurriculars:
Volleyball 4 years
Track 4 years
NHS (likely future president)
Co-Chair of local youth commission
Boys Stater
Captain of HS’s Link Crew
Worked in restaurant for 1.5 years
Part of the Triumvirate in Latin Club
Member on Forensics Team
Decent (?) at essays
The Physiology major is in College of Liberal Arts (you are admitted directly to a college rather than to a major). Your stats are definitely in the range of those admitted directly to the Honors Program for that college. Check it out:

Also, FYI everyone is considered for Honors when they apply - no additional application is needed. And there is no required essay on the UMN application. Just an optional statement regarding diversity (new this year), a brief explanation of why you want to study your desired major, and an optional personal statement section.
Good luck!
Admission to the Honors College is very competitive, and lots of highly-qualified kids are applying to the U of M-Twin Cities these days. An ACT of 32 is not likely to get an HC offer but a 34 will and a 33 is a maybe. Suggest retaking the ACT and submit that higher score only, as the “U” does not super score.
@MinnesotaDadof3, while we don’t have the most current stats for the incoming class (Fall 2016), last year’s stats for those directly admitted to CLA Honors show a mid 50% range of 30-33 for ACT and a class rank of 94% - 99%. OP 's 32 ACT and GPA of 3.992 is mid-to higher-side of that (assuming that the GPA is UW). It’s always possible that the stats will increase sizably in a given year but more likely they won’t move enough to knock OP even to the low end of that range.
CBS/CSE are a different story due to higher ACT’s (33-34 being the 25th percentile).
I really do not want to retake the ACT. But I can tell for sure that I’m in the top 97% of my class and will be taking college level calc III taught by a university professor next school year. Would this help my chances? @MinnesotaDadof3
@markiemarbles98: Perhaps my previous post is somewhat off – I based my comments on my experience with my two youngest kids, both of whom applied to and were accepted into CBS at “the U.” I never suspected that the U’s university-wide Honors College followed differing admittance standards based upon which college an admitted student was assigned. If so, then my estimate of needing a 34 ACT might be off.
From the website:
“Honors admission is offered to the overall most competitive applicants from each freshman-admitting college.”

Update: the Honors Program admission stats have now been updated for Class of 2016. The link in Post #1 will work but here it is again:

They have included SAT score information for the new test based on the College Board Concordance Tables.
