^I’m very interested in applying to T50’s, I’m already in a T100 though (Denver). I was considering applying for Beijing or Tsinghua but my chinese level isn’t good enough yet…and thanks for the warning!

Wellesley meets 100% of aid and is need-blind, which is why I want to apply there. And they have a really great EAS program. But I’m looking for similar schools to apply to

Don’t know about EAS programs, but at HKU or HKSU, Most of the courses are conducted in English anyway. You should seriously consider HK, Taiwan or China Colleges, even if you need a year of concentrated remedial language training. You will get excellent EAS programs that US schools cannot even think of. In the mean time you will be forced to learn the language in a native enviroment. You need to work like a native and speak like a native.

The thing with a lot of the Chinese colleges is that they require a high HSK score for admission, that’s what deters me. But otherwise, i completely agree.

Hsk score? Is it only for China? What about HK and Taiwan or even Singapore?

HSK-???

Are you talking about this? Its only for China.

Yeah, that’s the HSK. I’m not so certain I would like attending college in Taiwan or HK or Singapore – it’s a lot more expensive, right? And I want to improve my Mandarin Chinese, not Cantonese (HK)

I think in Taiwan it costs $10K USD/year for private school. Not sure about public schools, you should goto their web site to find out. They only speak Mandarin Chinese in TW. In HK, they are more ppl speak Mandarin now, not sure what they speak in the schools. One of the “official” language in Singapore is Mandarin.

Overall, education costs in the orient are far lower than that in the USA.

I was wrong, the coa for private college in TW is about 25-30K USD, public is much lower.
