CHANCE ME FOR LACs!! Will chance back

Hello! I am currently a high school junior and I'm beginning to start my college search.

I'm considering small LACs in the mid-atlantic, new england, and the mid-west.

I go to a fairly prestigious small academic magnet (with about a 10% acceptance rate) in a large city (in the top 5 in the US). My school grades on the 5's (so we can only earn a 65, 75, 85, or 95)

GPA: 3.5 uw, 3.62 w (the highest possible GPA at my school is a 3.88)
PSAT: 210 (which is like a 2100 SAT)

My school doesn't offer any AP's or honors courses. I take all of the hardest classes available to me.

I am on the debate team, and I am ranked the top debater in my city. I was eligible to compete in the national forensic lead national tournament but due to budgetary constraints I was unable to go. Hopefully I'll compete this year.

I am president of my schools Model UN club.

I am in my school's running club and I have run a marathon and will complete a second marathon this October.

I have been taking classes (for college credit) at a large university for a year, I have a 3.6 GPA there)

I have a job, but I only work for 7 hours on Sundays.

I am in a theatre company for high school students, and we out on a musical each year. Although we're only high school students, we are very respected in the local theatre scene. About 150 people audition for 8 spots each year.

To be honest I'm not really worried about my essay and recommendations, I'm pretty sure they'll be great.

If a school requires an interview, I can say with a good amount of certainty that my interview will be fantastic. I'm articulate and good on my feet, so I make very good first impressions.

Please chance my for the following:
Oberlin College
Sarah Lawrence College
Hampshire College
Wesleyan University
Skidmore College
Vassar College
Eugene Lang College (The New School)
Bard College

Also I have minority status (I'm black).

Well, you’re definitely on the right track  If your school ranks, I would suggest shooting as high as you can. Your GPA is a little low 4 top schools, but should be ok 4 our target schools. You definitely need to start cramming ur volunteer hours though, since time is running out. Are you good at any sports? Include those if you are.

For these schools, I’m sure you’ll make them if you put your best foot forward.

Good luck, and I look forward to seeing how you do :D

I go to a pretty progressive school and we don’t have class rank. I’m terrible at sports!!! I run marathons though, which is no small feat but it’s more about personal goals than competing. I think I’m going to begin volunteering to tutor underclassmen in History and English, because I definitely need those hours. Thank you so much!

Same as everyone else; not too familiar with some of these. However, your URM status is a help in any college app, and because LACs really focus on diversity, you get a serious boost, improving your app’s chances well beyond how it would in a typical big-city college…

As a junior, you’ll have a shot this summer/fall to apply to some Diversity Open Houses, if that is of any interest to you. You write an essay to a college with that program, send transcripts, and then you get a chance to be transported to that college, spend a few days, with food and bed included, and hang out with students, prospective and current. It shows interest, and potentially gives you a hand in the college app process. Oh, and the best part? Its ALL free ;)

Many LACs hold them, so see if there are any here on 2013’s list that interest you (in hopes of next year)

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/african-american-students/1539855-diversity-fall-fly-programs.html

That’s what little I can say, other than rock your SATIIs and SAT/ACT (210 is a fine place to start).

Your truncated (only featured schools I really know decently) chance:
Oberlin College: Match
Wesleyan University: Low Reach
Skidmore College: Match
Vassar College: Reach
Bard College: Match

Your list will grow, obviously. You’ve picked reasonable targets for yourself, so feel free to dream a bit and toss in higher end schools that might interest you (vassar is a start). Good luck with the year and the app process!

The fact that you are a minority helps your chances! Make sure to have a solid application!
