Keep in mind while reading this that I have a hearing auditory disability (I was diagnosed at age 3), have had an IEP from elementary school till senior year of high school, and go to a blue-ribbon high school in Massachusetts. I am currently a senior and want to major in communications, specifically broadcasting/journalism!

GPA (on 6-point scale): 3.50--->about a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
Freshman GPA (6-point scale): 2.8
Sophomore GPA (6-point scale): 3.7
Junior GPA (6-point scale): 4.1
Student of the Term May 2011 for Term 3 as a sophomore
Made the Honor Roll at least 8 times (sorry, lost count haha)

SAT score: 1500

My essay is about my hearing disability, and how I've overcome some of its challenges through my progression as a person.

ECs:
- A student (now intern) at Young Broadcasters of America for 3 years: I have interviewed individuals like Martha Coakley (MA Attorney General), Billy Campbell (TV Actor), and Joyce Kulhawik (MA Hall of Fame broadcaster)
- Was a student at the Emerson College High School Institute Journalism Program in July, and received their "Best Multimedia News Reporting" award from the Department of Professional Studies and Special Programs
- Wrote for my school newspaper (Entertainment reviews)
- Counselor for YBA Dan Duquette Sportscaster Camp
- Coach for a basketball program (won't specify name) that helped disabled kids have fun playing basketball

Term 1 grades were solid with three A's a B and one C+ (Math isn't my strong suit)

I have already gotten into Ithaca, Quinnipiac, and Suffolk. Should I feel hopeful about Marist?

Marist I a bit above those others, in terms of admissions. Don’t be surprised if you receive a waitlist or rejection, but there is still a chance you get accepted. GPA and SATs are lower than the average for Marist, but you have a strong well rounded backrgound. Fingers crossed!

I had a Friend that just got accepted to Marist with around an 86 average and I believe a 1060 on the sats ( only two parts) I don’t know much about Marist but I hope this helps!

Hey! First of all thank you so much for answering my question and I’m so happy we both are going for broadcast journalism! I’m really excited for you!
The second thing is, I went on their college board website, and it seems to me that you are in good shape. Most people have a lower GPA than yours, so yours is on the high side. The SAT scores are the average for the people that go there and also all your ECs are amazing! You have definitely done a lot of Journalism stuff and that should be good!

Plus, your hearing disability is totally a plus and will make you get in for sure. It’s amazing how you have overcome this disability! The best of luck for a journalism partner :)

Although your SAT might be a little low, your GPA is fine for a school of this caliber. Your extracurriculars are pretty much solid, and it’s awesome how you showed improvement! You should definitely apply, that’s a low reach, maybe possibly target!

I think your GPA is alright for the school, but your SAT is a little low. You definitely still have a shot! Good luck and thanks for chancing me! :)

Your SAT is a little low, however Marist has a test-optional policy so they won’t see it if you don’t want them to.
You GPA I would say is average for Marist, and your extracurriculars are varied and interesting.

Quinnipiac is Marist’s biggest competition, so getting in there is a good indicator for Marist.
