I want to apply to top math programs such as PROMYS, SUMaC, and Ross. I’m a female 10th grader in the USA.
I think I can answer most of the SUMaC questions on this years exam and I’ve looked at past exams for Ross and PROMYS and they look doable. I do have some past knowledge of number theory.
Stats:
4.0 uw gpa
1 ap: ap calc ab, taken this year. My school convinced me last year that ap calc ab was going to be really hard and now I’m super bored with only 1 ap and have a 100 in calc with little effort
Oh yeah and my school doesn’t offer honors classes.
amc: 87 and 94.5, no aime qualifications
No sat/act score because my school didn’t have 10th graders take the psat for some reason
Class rank is probably top 10% but I’m not sure because my school doesn’t let students see their class rank. I don’t know if I can even send that in anyways
Extracurriculars:
Musical theatre, drama, tech theatre, etc.
Tutoring elementary school kids who fell behind during quarantine in math and reading
Math club (obviously)
Hopefully some awards from MAO competitions by the time I send in applications
A few other interest clubs that I’m not very involved in
~25 volunteer hours
Also I’m definitely getting a glowing letter of rec from my calc teacher.
So do I have even a chance for PROMYS, Ross, or SUMaC? Please tell me if it is worth applying because I don’t know what to do.
