I have heard that Medill looks more at how well rounded you are and varied experiences so I hope my extra curriculars will make up for the kinda low test scores/GPA. I go to a school of about 1,400 students in Washington State.

SATs: (710 verbal, 620 m, 640 writing) Haven't taken SAT IIs yet but will probably get between 700-800 as I will pick ones that play to my strengths.

GPA: ~3.7 unweighted, every class is an IB class except Newspaper.

Extras:
2 years varsity basketball (junior, senior)
2 years varsity cross country (freshman, sophomore)
4 years varsity track

Paged twice for the state legislature, once for the house and once for the senate

Helped to raise $100,000 for a school play I was in to go to Edinburgh, Scotland to participate in the prestigious Fringe Festival

Was in a choir that went to Japan and Washington DC

3 years on the school paper, 1 year as a Copy Editor, 1 year as Editor-in-Chief

Attended Boys State as a junior, this mock government thing that you are nominated for held at a university

Won the schools writing award for a piece I submitted junior year

Various work experience and other ECs: workshops, etc.

I'm a rising Medill student, and you have much better extras than I did, I'll tell you that. I wouldn't worry too much about the writing score because I had a 650, but then again, I also had a 35 on the ACT English counterpart. I'd try out the ACT as well just because my SATs were like yours: high CR, low math & writing and I ended up doing awesomely on the ACT.

I'll second I1uRveC0ke's suggestion about the ACT.

Never can tell, nothing to lose. There's no requirement to declare the ACT if things go poorly. But if you do well, remember that while SAT 2's are recommended for NU they are not required, therefore no need to submit your SAT score.

Remember also that applying early decision can often make the difference.

Thanks a lot guys i really appreciate the help.

Would early decision affect my chances of getting into Medill? I understand that it's a seperate application entirely from the school itself? Do I apply to both?

Does Medill have to take their kids from people who have already been accepted, or do they accept kids who are then automatically accepted into the school?
