Hey! So, even though I’m applying for Michigan State too, I’m just stating my honest opinion and don’t want to let you down by any means.
3.86 GPA is great, but did you take any APs? For example, I have 3.83, but took 7 AP Classes.
1080 SAT seems a little low. I think their acceptance is around 1040-1210, but that’s for the OLD SAT score. I talk to my MSU recruiter that comes to our school a lot, and she said to expect a little higher than that 1040-1210 number. 1080 may be okay, but that’s probably the 25 percentile.
I’m not really sure how you took 5 years of Spanish, because highschool is 4 years, but you definitely exceed the average 2-year minimum of a foreign language as a requirement. I’m also taking AP Spanish this year, and took Spanish Freshman-Junior year, and I also plan to minor in Spanish. What a coincidence!
I feel like working and playing a sport are great after-school activities, but you definitely want to throw in some club & organizations you’re in, the volunteer service you’ve done, etc. Have you gotten any academic or athletic awards or recognitions?
Hope I helped some

I am also applying to MSU If you aren’t intending to send your application in early, I would recommend retaking the SAT or ACT (late registration for the Oct. 1st SAT date starts today). You are a little bit on the low end with both scores, although still in the 50% range.
I sent in my application a few days ago and I am also hoping to major in engineering. Maybe we’ll end up accidentally meeting
I would have to agree with bloxJacket, you may need some EC’s. MSU doesn’t put much weight on them but it does help a little bit. I do know that they put a lot of weight on your senior schedule (whether it’s rigorous or not, yknow), so that’s pretty important.
Yes I am taking an AP course this year. It was possible for me to take 5 years of Spanish because at my school we can take Spanish 1 in 8th grade. And my ACT score is better than my SAT, my brother got in with the same ACT score but only had a 3.55 gpa and didn’t take as many hard classes as me. I am busy year round, so it isn’t possible for me to do any clubs.
I also volunteer and I’m probably going to tutor. And yes I have gotten many academic/athletic awards
