My essay is about how I used to hate visiting my grandfather because he has no modern technology. It was only after his death that I realized I had been blinded by 21st century material possesions. My AP lit teacher said it was an excellent essay and she said she praised it more than she typically praises an essay....

Oh Honey, my heart goes out to you…Deferred by Dartmouth with those stats! It’s a cold hard world for white boys from the NE.
You have excellent chances anywhere, so it’s the crap shoot theory. Apply to 10 and statistically, you should get into 2-3, unless you have really BAD luck. You should be on top of the pile for Colgate and BC, at least. Have you considered applying to Carleton or Reed or Oberlin or an LAC out of the NE? That might help…
By the way, I did a pre-internship at Milford hospital about a million years ago…Hang in there, it should work out!

“It’s a cold hard world for white boys from the NE.” Tell me about it, if I lived in Nebraska or was black, I’d be packing my bags for Cambridge or New Haven.

Alright, I’ll just apply to a bunch of top schools and hope for the best.

Evil,
I’d be careful what you say on these boards. Given your detailed profile it will be pretty easy for ad coms to figure out who you are and comments like the one above are only going to hurt your chances.

“Alright, I’ll just apply to a bunch of top schools and hope for the best.”

Be sure to apply to some match schools as well, and a couple of safeties you would like.

Ditto hohom’s comment.

True enough. But I assert that it isn’t a racist comment, just how it is.
Now that the world is flat, to quote Thomas Friedman, the very bright cyberconnected youngster from Upper Volga or China has as good a chance(or better) as our young friend . Is it right? I don’t know. But this whole “crafting a class” thing makes it harder to get in as an individual if there are a lot of your specific type.

It’s kind of like the top colleges are orchestras or baseball teams-you can’t take all flutists, or first basemen…That’s what I meant by my comment. And I don’t think Adcoms or anyone else should take offense.

bumpppppppppppppppppppppp

bump10char chance me for all my schools, pleaze!!!

bumppppppppppppp

First off, I just want to say that the fact that you are a white male does NOT make you discriminated against. In fact, many colleges today prefer males over females and since it’s optional for you to tell them your race the fact that you’re white doesn’t factor into it.
