Chance me for MIT/Caltech/Ivy please!

Hi!

I'm a caucasian female junior, and I want to apply to:
1)MIT
2)Caltech
3)Princeton
4)Harvard
5)UC Berkeley
6)UWaterloo
7)McGill (safety)
8)Stanford

possibly applying to some other safeties.

Stats:
SAT Scores (cr-640, w-640, m-780) 2060, but I'm planning to study and retake
PSAT - 210
planning to take SATII Math lvl 2, Physics, Chemistry

GPA: 3.911 (unweighted)
Class rank: 78/500

AP Classes: Calculus AB (BC exam) 5 (sophomore year),
this year: AP Physics B, AP Chemistry, AP Statistics, AP US History

Next year: AP English, AP French 5, AP Psychology

I'll also take some advanced classes in CompSci and Math in a local community college next year.

Many local and regional math awards.

Statistical research experience (project winner).

I'll probably have really good letters of rec from my teachers.

ECs: table tennis (4 years), clarinet (4~5 years), math contests (4 years), karate (3 years)

Participation in math summer programs

Other: jumped 2 grades, school diploma (homeschooled 8 years) from Russia (fluent in Russian)

Please chance me and suggest what I have to work on! Thank you very much !

Rank. You can raise SAT scores, and you’ll need to, but the US schools on your list take almost no unhooked candidates who are not withing the top 10% of their class. For most on your list, unless you go to a highly competitive high school (average SAT about 2050 plus), they will expect you to be among the top few students.

thanks! I appreciate a lot your response. I’ll definitely work on those. Do you think my ECs are ok?

Your ECs look good, but try to get a leadership role of some sort. That is crucial for a lot of schools.

Sorry, Im confused. Is there an American UWaterloo? Its not on google though.

“Possibly” applying to some other safeties?

Are you in Canada?

I’m pretty sure this person is Canadian, considering they’re also applying to McGill (a Canadian school)… and UWaterloo is in Canada so that’s my guess…

^ Aha, I see  In that case, that’s fine.

raise those SAT scores to 2200+ and try look for some research internships or general opportunities over summer. Work on your essays and make sure they’re unique.

definitely try to bring up your SAT score

also, a kid from my school was on the cusp of being admitted into MIT. In order to sway their opinion (and from what some people tell me it’s a requirement) he published a math theorem. He was then admitted like 2 months ago. I think he applied early action/decision. He’s also taking super hard math courses at Villanova University since he completed all high school ones (including BC Calc and Senior Seminar).

Good luck!

Thanks a lot for all the replys! I apreciate your time to write them!

I’m a canadian permanent resident, but I’m currently attending high school in US. Since I used to live in Ontario, I want to apply to some good Canadian universities too.

I will probably get some industrial experience, working on a PHP project through my parents. Do you think that will help my resume gain more weight?

Thanks.

As you’ve said you will do, retake the SAT and aim for 2300+.

Also, raise that rank up. You should be in the top 10%.

Focus on the objectives. Do the PHP project on the side as that may help you when you’re looking for a job in the future.

But if you don’t have the standard ones (SAT + rank), adcoms won’t even look (or will barely) at the ECs, etc.

Apply to other safeties, like the state school or something.

Is McGill really a safety? Isn’t that like the Ivy of Canada?

What is it that you’re passionate about? Tell us about the person you are, not just the student, and we’ll undoubtedly become more enthusiastic about your admissions future.

Is McGill anyone’s safety? That’s an impressive statement!

^ A quick look at Collegeboard says McGill has a 54% acceptance rate. That’s about the rate for my state school (56%), so I suppose it’s a safety… don’t know anything else about McGill though.

my predictions:

1)MIT - very high reach
2)Caltech - low reach
3)Princeton - very high reach
4)Harvard - who the hell knows
5)UC Berkeley - match
6)UWaterloo - don’t know anything about it
7)McGill (safety) - sure
8)Stanford - high reach

you need higher SAT scores and some safeties. not being top 10% might make things very difficult, but if you’re 78th in your class with a 3.91 UW, i’m assuming you have a very competitive high school?

You’re in at Waterloo and McGill; those two schools only look at your GPA and yours is certainly high enough.

Jesus Christ, a 3.9 UW only gets you rank 78?!

I’m very interested in studying mathematics. I’ve done many math contests and I’ve placed pretty high in some all-American ones. I’ve also attended several math camps and took extra online classes for enrichment in contests. Naturally, I plan to major in applied math.

The SAT score is old, I took it last year (gr. 10) and I believe that if I’m capable of scoring between 2200-2400 with preparation, and I’ll certainly aim for a perfect math score.

I was wondering what you ment by high reach and low reach schools. Are the high reach ones those that I don’t really have a chance to get in to?

Also, I’m pretty sure I’ll have some leadership experience starting a student group, because I’m quite passionate about teen drug issues. I hope it will become official by the end of this school year.

Oh, I was wondering that if I’m 2 years younger than my classmates (I jumped grades), will that be an advantage or a disadvantage in admissions. I hope that recs will point it out that I don’t act immature or anything.

And I do go to a pretty competitive high school. I hope that I can fix my gpa, and I’ll try to get into top 5-10%, as my teachers change grades after APs.
