Chance me for MIT, Chicago, Harvard, Brown....

Hello all. I'll be applying to MIT and Chicago, and, depending on the outcome of that, perhaps Harvard, Brown, Yale, Princeton, Columbia, Penn, and, as a safety, Case Western.

Stats:
SAT: 730M/740CR/560W
SAT II: 760M2/660PH
GPA:3.72 UW, 4.12 W
Rank: Top decile at one of the best public schools in Pennsylvania
Other Tests: 5 5's on APs

Subjective:
Essays: Amazing. I am a great writer
Recs: Amazing. The teachers I got love me.
Summer Activities: 4 Summers at JHU CTY
Hooks: Legacy in one form at almost all of the schools

Personal:
Extracurricular: Forensics, Latin Club, Math Club heads. Participator in MUN, FBLA, Cellist, Newspaper, Literary Journal, Student Government, Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, NHS. National level Forensics and FBLA work. National Latin Exam Gold medals.
Awards: AP scholar with distinction, Departmental honors almost every year.

I'm retaking the the SAT next weekend. I have been practicing at 200 points higher that I have gotten, nearly 2400.

well, your gpa is quite weak, and so are your ec’s. Harvard is a reach, but then again, it is for everyone.

Going just off the stats you posted and not predicted:

SAT: While a very respectable 1470/1600 and even though writing is weighted less than the other scores, a 2130/2400 is low.

SATII: You are at 78th percentile for math 2 and a 45th percentile for physics. That is low.

GPA: Don’t know enough about your school or transcript to make an accurate judgement. The top decile will help you though.

APs: good

Essays/Recs: As will be everyones.

Summer Activities: Good for showing your intellectual curiosity but just know that CTY isn’t that prestigious.

Hooks: How can you be a legacy at most schools unless your parents simultaneously went to three undergrad schools? Make sure you look at how a school does legacy preferences. More schools are moving to only parents count for legacy.

EC’s: Not enough description to judge.

Awards: Again, everyone will have these.

Overall, chances are low not just because your stats are a bit on the low side but just because these schools are ** freakin’ hard to get into **. You might want to add more some more match schools such as Tufts or JHU.

Harvard and Brown will be Reach/High Reach for you.

For MIT, you really want 800 in SAT Math, both reasoning and subject. With those scores, you’re putting yourself WAY down the charts. Being in Math Club does not guarantee anything either; did you make it to AIME? Compete in competitions such as PUMaC? Duke Math Meet?

I say High-reach, given the EC’s and SAT Math scores.

You will have more chance with Chicago though.

Overall, I think you need to rethink your list. I’m no better than you in certain areas (don’t get me wrong), but those schools are highly competitive and seems like high reach for most of the schools that you have listed, maybe reach.

Chance me back?
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1008044-chances-me.html

First off, your unweighted GPA is awful. Unless you attend some crazy school where the average grade is a C, there is no way that you can be in the first decile.

Second, you come off as quite arrogant. Obviously, you are not as “amazing” as you describe yourself as a writer, if you couldn’t get better than a 560 on the SAT. Your math and physics SAT subjects do you no favor as well, if you wish to attend MIT.

Many students attending MIT have not only perfect or near perfect subject test scores, but have also done something to contribute to humanity’s wealth of knowledge in either math or science; they have done much more than merely join the school’s “math club” or “newspaper club.” I am sure that not only my school holds annual club sign up days where one can sign up for as many clubs as he or she wishes. The fact that you are a member of fifteen clubs does little to show who you are to the adcoms.

As for your awards, tens of thousands of students achieve AP scholar awards; that does not make you unique, while the “departmental awards” you mention mean little. In my experience, teachers give these out like Halloween candy.

I sure hope you achieve a 2400 on your retake, because with the profile you have presented, you have little chance at the top colleges you listed. I strongly suggest you reevaluate your college expectations.

MIT-No
Chicago-High Reach
Harvard- When I win the lottery
Brown- High Reach
Yale- High Reach
Princeton- High Reach
Columbia- Perhaps ED
Penn- CAS ED Maybe
Case Western- High Match

Don’t take what I have said personally. I am simply being as honest as I know to be. I just believe that you are over-estimating yourself. I am sure you will find a great university. An Ivy League education does not mean much. In fact, you could probably still achieve great success after attending a “lesser” school.

Fairly low chance for all

This is curious. Almost all of those schools consider you a legacy only if a parent graduated from their undergrad college. Step parents do count. So if each of your parents has been married several times, you win the legacy prize!

as perviously been said you might want to add a few more realsitic schools into the mix because quite honestly if that is all you have chances are you will probably end up at case western
