Chance me for my list of target schools?

Targets:

Duke
Emory
Cornell
Brown
Berkeley
Carnegie-Mellon
Dartmouth
Bowdoin
Williams
Amherst
Colgate
Johns Hopkins
(Of course, I have several safeties, these are just my targets/reaches)

Early/Regular decision chances?

Here are my stats:

-Wrote a very personal essay about my father's alcoholism, and how he took his own life when I was eight years old.

Weak GPA and ECs, but your test scores are solid. I wouldn’t necessarily say that the schools you mentioned are targets; Duke, Cornell, Brown, Dartmouth, Williams and Amherst are all reaches. You’ll have a good shot at the others.

Your GPA could be higher, but your test scores are pretty good. Do you have a hook? Ex: URM, First Generation? (oh, and bee tee dubs, your hurdles time is insane. I did hurdles for a year and my time is feeble in comparison.)

Here’s what my opinion is…
Duke: low reach
Emory: match
Cornell: low reach
Brown: reach
Berkeley: match
Carnegie-Mellon: match
Dartmouth: low-mid reach (not sure whether this is a real ranking, but whatever.)
Bowdoin: reach
Williams: reach
Amherst: reach
Colgate: match
John Hopkins: match

Again, the reaches still doable, but they aren’t guaranteed for anyone.

Test scores and GPA are not solid for ivies and top LACs unless you are recruited.

Thank you everyone for your input

I don’t understand why my EC’s are considered weak? I’m one of the most involved people in my entire school.

Your record is really good and I agree that your ECs are good and not weak. You will probably not get in to all the schools on your list but you are a lock to gain admission to a very good school.

I think you have a chance for all the schools you mentioned.

Might also look at LAC’s like Holy Cross and Bucknell-very good schools but easier to get into than Amherst and Williams. HC and Bucknell are very similar to Colgate.
