Also, if you don’t mind, please let me know if there are any schools you think I could get merit aid at - I don’t qualify for need-based but might struggle to pay OOS tuition.

Stats:

SAT: 2280 CR: 780 WRT: 790 MATH: 710
GPA: 4.0 unweighted and 5.6 weighted
Rank: 1/700

Essays: I have not written them yet bc I am a junior but I tend to do well with essays and will work tirelessly to perfect them while also making sure they sound genuine rather than calculated.
Recommendations: I plan to get one from my APUSH teacher and the other either from my AP calc teacher or english teacher. They should be solid.

AP Exams: human(4) macro(4) micro(5) spanish(5) world(5) art history(5)

I am taking 6 exams this may and hope to get 5’s on calc psych and apush and then 4’s at least on my others.
I will also take 7 more ap exams after senior year but that will be after decisions so it isn’t really relevant what I will get.

Extracurricular:

Debate Team: 4 years(President, VP, Treasurer, Squad Leader). I won awards at many local and regional tournaments - no huge ones.

Foreign Language Honor Society: 4 years (President).

Rho Kappa (Social Studies): 3 years (Vice President)

Graduate of Youth Leadership Broward Program

I am a peer minister at my church.

Service: many political campaigns, summer camps, cat shelters.

SHAPE service club: 4 years (Historian and volunteer coordinator)

Varsity Tennis: 3 years

Awards: Scholar Athlete, Harvard Book Award, Likely NMSQT qualifier, AP Scholar w distinction, 1st place in impromptu at a local spanish competition.

I am a member of the steering committee for Teen Political Forum, an organization that holds an event every year in which over 1000 high school students come to ask questions of local and state elected officials. I will be chairing the event this upcoming year.

I am an intern on a Senate campaign and do a lot of grassroots community organizing. I was thinking about talking about this in an essay. I basically reach out to politically active people in my county and get them on board. I also help get people out to vote in straw polls and I will be organizing events this summer for the campaign.

I raised about $1000 for an orphanage in Peru to help them build a library and I am traveling there this summer to help them build it. I also speak decent Spanish but not yet fluently and hope to perfect my skills there.

Are you instate for UVA, UNC, or Cal-Berkeley?

Admission at Yale or Columbia is a crap shoot, no matter how good your grades/test scores are; you just pay your money, and take your chances. Also, forget about getting any merit aid from Yale or Columbia; they don’t give it out, because they don’t need to.

Based solely on the Naviance scattergram information for our high school, I assess your chances as follows:

U Chicago – insufficient data
Georgetown – very good chance
GW – extremely good chance
UVA – very good chance
UNC – very good chance
Cal – very good chance

You might ask your guidance counselor about nominations for the Jefferson Scholarship at UVA, as you would appear to be a strong candidate for that.

Your ECs are good; you don’t need to do any additional ones, just focus on what you are already involved in.

While top ivy league admissions are the hardest, I see no reason why they would not accept you. Great chance at all these schools!
