I just got my PSAT back. It was 226, so I definitely made it in Mississippi. I don't have all a's on my transcript- I slacked off sophomore year. I have plenty of EC's and 2200 sat. What else should I do other than keep my grades up? Thanks :)

For now:

send your SAT score to NMCorp…code 0085

keep your grades up

read FAQ thread: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/national-merit-scholarships/1365011-faq-psat-sat-nmsf-nmf-process.html

Later:

Do all you are required to do by the deadline.

make sure your school does their part

Oh, CONGRATS!

Thank you rockfishdg!

It all depends on how much you slacked off Soph. year. If you have a bunch of C’s, even one D, or a low GPA overall, that will be the deciding factor.

If by “slacking off” you mean a few B’s, but mostly A’s–relax.

I’m pretty sure all you have to do to become a finalist is be a semifinalist and fill out all the forms. Getting the National Merit $2500 scholarship is much more difficult. I was the only one out of the three finalists at my high school to get one, so I can’t say what they look for in general. You’ll still have a chance at school-specific scholarships though as just a finalist, like an almost full ride from Auburn.

No, that’s not true.

I think my DD got a score that should place her in the NMSF list. Should we wait for the notice before sending the SAT score or we can do it even now? I am asking because we can include that in her next SAT registration for free. She took the December SAT already and has exceeded the requirement although she is very disappointed with the score. So she is going to retake it in March.

yes you can send the score…
