Chance me for Northwestern Direct, Case Direct, Brown Direct, John Hopkins, UMich

Hey all,
I am currently a sophomore in high school in Michigan. I was wondering if you guys could chance me for the aforementioned schools, as I am very interested in joining a medical field.

Ethnicity: Indian Male
Current GPA UW: 4.0

Sports:
On the Rowing crew this season, will be attaining Varsity letter junior year in November

Extracurriculars:
Indian American Student Association (Marketing and Publicity Lead)
Rotary Interact (Only 80 hours of service so far, can improve if necessary)
HOSA (Qualified for states, did not make nationals in Medical Math), and I will make board this year
DECA (Qualified for states, did not make nationals in Marketing Management Series)
Quiz Bowl (Varsity, could not attend states last year due to scheduling conflict but this year will make nationals as we are best in league)
BuildOn (Leadership this year)

This year I will study and will probably make HOSA nationals and Quiz Bowl nationals, DECA I most likely will not.
Do you guys think I have a shot? If I don’t, do you have any suggestions for me to improve somewhere?

These programs are obviously competitive, so without required test scores (such as SAT subject tests) it’s impossible to say whether you are in the ball park. But, smart / self disciplined kids can usually (barring testing issues) get the numbers they need, so let’s assume that you will have them.

The other piece is much more subjective, b/c they looking for students who are particularly outstanding, show high levels of maturity and who demonstrate an understanding of what they are taking on in a fast-track program.

You are obviously mathy, and doing dual enrollment for calc- but I don’t see you doing more advanced bio-type studies once you are done with AP Bio. I’m not sure what HS “Human Biology” is like after AP Bio, but I would have thought maybe a dual enrollment class- maybe anatomy & physiology? microbiology? biochem? > AP ES, for example. I see the HOSA, but I don’t see any direct involvement in any aspect of the medical field (from either the lab side or the practice side). It is hard getting even volunteer opportunities, much less internships in HS- but it can be done. If you are really serious about this, what are you doing with your next 2 summers (summer after G10 & G11)?

Obviously I don’t know what your options are, but there is nothing except HOSA in what you have listed above that says ‘I am passionate about…’. Other posters may be saying ‘you’re only a sophomore, don’t worry yet’, but if you are looking at applying to fast-track programs, imo you should already be getting your feet wet.

Forgot to mention, I will be taking the SAT Subject tests for Math level 2 and Bio this year, and for Spanish and Chemistry next year. I will also be doing a medical summer program either this summer or the next

Would switching out AP Euro for Honors Human Anatomy and Physiology help? I was thinking about this, but at our school Human Anatomy is all seniors and they usually do not do well in the class.

@MichPerro Yes, I am running for HOSA board. Last year I competed in Medical Math, but this year I am competing in Forensic Medicine. What event did you compete in?
