Current junior, white female
Probably no financial aid needed
GPA: weighted- 4.77; unweighted-4.12
Highest SAT: composite- 2180; CR- 740, M-650, W-790 (I know my math is really low/probably isn’t going to go up, so I’m hoping to focus on the ACT instead)
Highest ACT: composite-31; M-30, R-34, E-35, S-23 (I’ve only taken it once, so hopefully I can get my science/math scores up. I’m shooting for a 32/33 composite next time.)
Rank: school doesn’t rank, but I’m positive I’m in the top 10%, possibly even #1
Courses:
9th:
-Honors English I, world history, Honors Algebra II, Honors Biology, Honors Spanish II, Honors studio art I, PE I
10th:
-English II, APUSH, Geometry, Chemistry, Honors Spanish III, Fine Arts Survey, Honors Musical Theatre
11th:
-AP English, Honors Pre-cal, Physics, Honors Spanish IV, Honors Musical Theatre
**note: I would’ve taken more challenging courses sophomore/junior year, but I go half-day to an arts school for musical theatre, and that restricted the amount of honors/APs I could take b/c all of my classes had to be in the morning before I left. I think the fact that I go to the arts school sort of makes up for it, though.
Extracurriculars/Community Service:
-TONS of community theatre/performances at my arts school (solid 2 or more shows a year since freshman year)
-volunteer work at Second Harvest Food bank
-will volunteer this summer for every day a 3-week children’s theatre camp
-volunteered at the New Orleans Barkus dog parade (9th&10th grade)
-Global Citizens club (9th & 10th grade)
-GIRLS (feminism/self-empowerment) club (currently)
-I’ve had some work published in my school’s literary magazines.
Other Education:
-The New Orleans Center for the Creative Arts half-day program for musical theatre (10th grade-now)
-studied at Enforex in Spain the summer before jr. year
-hopefully will be attending the Columbia pre-college summer program this year for the theatrical collaboration class
Awards:
-Cum Laude Society (inducted this year)
-National Honor Society (inducted last year)
-Harvard Prize Book (this year)
-Jose Luis Banos award (this year)
-Won either silver or gold awards in the National Spanish Exam every year of high school
-placed at both district and state literary rally every year of high school (and I’ve gone for Spanish every year except for one, when I went for English)
Hooks (potentially?):
-NOCCA (I think the fact that I go to an arts school half-day at least makes me unique, even if it’s not a real hook.)
-I’m from the south (geographical minority at NU)
Other:
-intended major: theatre (I’m going to talk about this in my essay)
-since I’m a junior and I haven’t applied yet, I don’t know about my essays/recs, but I can assume that they’ll be great. I visited Northwestern recently and looooved it. I also took a tour of the theatre and saw the Waa-Mu show, so I can write about that in my essay.
In general, I know I need to get my test scores up a bit and maybe do a few more extracurriculars. NU is my first choice, and I want to get in so badly. If anyone has any other tips, please let me know!!
