awards-

Community Service certificate x2 by the same organization that raise 44,000 dollars

Essays/Supplemental's:
All essays and supplemental essays were extremely unique, humorous and perhaps the better essays I have written in my life. Related my life to Alice in Wonderland and how troubling it was to adjust to my new school district.

LoRs:
Somewhat weak by my S.S. teacher of last year (asked him last minute [only reason why])
Guidance Counselor (Extremely strong. Describes my trouble adjusting to the school and how I have matured this year a lot and have become more focused).
In January, I will be asking my current physics, s.s. and english teachers for rec's for NYU-poly. These will be extremely well written. One of them will be by a professor from Hofstra describing my performance in a College Credit class (ACE program by Stony Brook) and how well I have done; Physics ( my A+ average); English (basically what my guidance counselor wrote).

Obvious weak points:

GPA

Obvious Strength:
SAT score

MAJOR: Chem Eng.
PREMED OVERALL

nod of approval not too shabby chances for either NYU LSP or NYU Poly. I don’t know if your guidance counselor’s letter sounds “extremely strong” though, but I guess it’s being written for the purpose of justifying your GPA?

Yeah, I wouldn’t send in the Chem SAT. In my opinion, it kind of derides how well you did on the standard SAT :/

Thank you so much. These two schools basically my top choices. They aren’t to far from home ( I live in LI) which is perfect.

I am not sure how my counselor is going to write it but it will focus on my disconnect with this school and my loss of confidence in 11th grade and now how I have sort of become resilient.

She was actually my my counselor back in middle school at my old school district.

I’d say even LSP is a reach for you. Because students have now been able to apply directly to the LSP program, it’s becoming more competitive. With a 3.05 UW GPA, you’re in the very bottom of all NYU students. The average GPA across NYU is a 3.6.

damn. So what do you rec. I aim for on my SAT in order for them to accept me?

Any score above 2200+ is considered to be well qualified. Improving your SAT score won’t help.

The problem with a high SAT score and low GPA is that it, typically, at least to adcoms, demonstrates a strong ability but lack of motivation and dedication.

@nyu2013: How much emphasis does nyu give towards the college essay. I explained clearly and thoroughly as to why my grades were garbage and my disconnect with the school.
also, this sounds very far-fetched, but would a 2400 make me a low reach/match?

by the way. my school uses this gpa scale:

A (96-100) = 4.0
A- (90-95) = 3.667
B+ (87-89) = 3.333
B (83-86) = 3.0

B- (80-82) = 2.667

NYU consideres the following “very important”

Very important admission factors:
Class Rank
Application Essay
Extracurricular Activities
Recommendations
Rigor of secondary school record
Standardized Test Scores
Talent/Ability
Academic GPA
