- represented small group of american students and gave a speech to foreign official while visiting foreign country, this isn’t on my app but possible one of my recs touched this
letters of rec: guidance counselor - 7/10, we don’t know each other very well so likely very generic but she likes me a lot (mostly because she enjoys my performing lol) and knows i’m involved, always seemed to respect me
teacher 1 - 8/10, precalc/calculus, we’re not super close and i was quiet in his classes but he liked me a lot and taught me for two years, saw lots of improvement, recommended me as a tutor to students often, i ended up being top of his class, he knows my accomplishments well
teacher 2 - 7/10, world history/comp gov, again not super close and i’m fairly quiet, but i’ve had her for two years as well and do really well in her classes, she is often impressed by my writing and i showed a particular interest in philosophy/religion things which i think she appreciated
essays: common app - i have no idea what to rate this lol. about using art as a platform for change and recognizing how my perspectives and world views are impacted by my privilege and seeking to expand those perspectives, i worked hard on it and was initially very proud of it but recent rejections/deferrals have me second guessing so this essay might change a bit haha
why NYU? - 8.5/10, i really REALLY want to go to NYU and hopefully it shows
vassar EC - 9/10, well-written and genuine
why Vassar? - 7/10, i adore vassar and feel like it’s a wonderful fit for me but am having a harder time getting this one across for some reason
i am applying to NYU Steinhardt for classical voice and obviously my audition is the most important factor for that decision, but talent aside how well do i bode for say getting into the liberal studies core program with these stats if it was expressed as my second choice on my application? do i have any shot? do they send music students to the core program/am i over-qualified (someone told me that haha)
likewise, opinions on my chances at vassar? I’m submitting a portfolio for voice there as well and am debating whether or not to submit songwriting and/or poetry and/or creative essay for the yourSpace (opinions on this appreciated!!)
i am also applying to Yale and GW early if anyone has opinions on those (though i do tend to think Yale is a very obviously high reach for me and for anyone, and that GW is a strong match verging on safe)
i have already been accepted to Fordham LC (even with a super liberal common ap essay! which is reassuring), but was deferred at Tulane (despite feeling really good about that application yikes) and rejected from UChicago (ed and has been a dream school for years and totally thought i would be deferred so double yikes)
opinions much appreciated!! thank you!
