I am not an american citizen but I have a green card.

anyone?

I’d say low reach.

According to Niche, 75% of NYU applicants have an ACT of 33 and a GPA of 3.75. 50% have an ACT of 31 and a GPA of 3.62. So you look good in that department. On Niche, current students at NYU provided “tips for getting in” (https://colleges.niche.com/new-york-university/admissions/). They say to:
-Be creative in your essay.
-Be passionate and feel free to express your beliefs; NYU is open to progressive thinking.
-Besides having good grades, the school values a sense of individuality and creativity.

The biggest thing with prestigious schools like NYU is to have something that TRULY makes you stand out (a “standout factor”). What have you done that very few other people have? What about you is unique? With your stats, there’s no doubt you have a standout factor. Use it to your advantage.

I have a friend who got into NYU and is currently an international business major there. He had a 33 ACT and graduated at the top of his class with an IB diploma. But what really got him in was his passion. Remember, there are hundreds of other applicants that have the same, if not better, ACTs and GPAs. So you have to ask yourself what makes you worthy of being chosen over them.

Finally, remember that NYU is an awesome school (no doubt about it), but there are hundreds of other schools out there just as good. Keep an open mind.

(Just so that it’s clear, pretty sure the above poster meant that the top 25% of NYU accepted have ACT 33 and above, not 75% of them.)

@thetsaria thanks! :slight_smile:
@okatef yeah, i could think of a couple things that help me stand out :stuck_out_tongue: do u know any other colleges that are also in my range? thank you!

Your SAT isn’t EXTREMELY competitive, but I think your ACT is pretty good! (Looking at the ACT scores of my friends who got in last year). I would sent that over your SAT.
Another factor I think you should consider is what you’re planning on majoring in. Certain schools in NYU are much more difficult to get into (Stern, CAS, and Tandon can be difficult) in comparison and are MUCH higher in selectivity than the school as a whole.

I think as it stands, you’re in a hazy area because 1. Your GPA isn’t very competitive compared to their average and 2. You just don’t have a lot of information in general

HOWEVER, I 100% think you stand a shot at getting into NYU :). I think that one thing I noticed on your profile is your heavy involvement in the Indian community. Use that to your advantage; NYU is a much more global university than any I’ve applied to or looked at. They definitely will take notice of students who are more global than those who are restricted to their local community.

@anzhilin thank you!!! it means so much to me that you think i have a shot! im looking into health care/ psychology at the moment

Georgetown, Villanova, Middlebury College, Fordham, Boston College would all be good safety schools for you. As for schools in NYU’s range, Columbia, Notre Dame, Washington University in St. Louis, would all be good options. Good luck with applying!

@okatef Columbia will be significantly more difficult to get into than NYU or any of the other schools you’ve listed in NYU’s range.

@okatef ^^^this. And how would Georgetown and Boston College be safety schools?

@TheRealTalq I was wondering that as well. Boston College, maybe safety. However Georgetown I think would be a match, not safety.

SAT is a little bit low. ACT is better. EC’s are pretty good but for schools like NYU you need something that makes you exceptional. Low reach, IMO.

Which undergraduate college at NYU are you looking at? You are certainly competitive for CAS, but Stern or Poly would be a reach. Gallatin would depend heavily on your essays. I can’t speak with any confidence regarding Steinhardt. Tisch depends entirely on your audition or portfolio. All the comments above are meaningless, since the separate divisions at NYU have vastly disparate criteria and acceptance rates.

@okatef G’Town and Middlebury are significantly harder to get into than NYU and the OP’s stats are below average for each and aren’t safeties for any applicant, let alone the OP.

thanks guys!
@okatef wow those are some GOOD schools watch me not get into any lol

@OneNormalKnight that’ll be hard lol im not exceptional

@woogzmama probably CAS, coz i wanna go premed

@amethyst2000 I mean you don’t have to be internationally acknowledged haha but hopefully there’s something that sets you apart from all the Well Rounded ™ students out there…?
