I’m a junior in-state and I think I’m going to finish my junior year with a 3.35 GPA and a 35 ACT. I am in pretty much all Honors and AP’s but I feel like I have screwed my chances up by having a lackluster GPA, and I’m sure it’s below average for my class, but my school doesn’t really release that type of info. Is there a realistic chance of me getting in? Simply wondering about it is stressing me out. Im not sure if the first semester of my senior year counts too so I don’t know if I can bring my grades up or if they’re going to stay the same. Thanks.
Ok, I just got into The Ohio State University as a senior and I think you are totally fine. GPA only matters if you also have questionable test scores. Your 35 act will show them that you are a capable student. They know that no one is perfect and maybe your younger self made some mistakes in high school. Just keep working hard and try to raise your GPA as much as you can without freaking yourself out. Best of luck!
Excellent ACT, will likely depend on what major you choose, some seem to be more competitive than others…on the tour we went on, the admissions liaison during the presentation essentials said the senior year grades “didn’t really matter too much”, which I didn’t like to hear as it encourages senioritis…in state seems to be more competitive than out of state, outstanding ACT though…certainly could transfer in from a branch but that ACT could even get you money from other Ohio schools. OSU in recent years seems to pride themselves on higher. GPAs and class rank… Best of luck.
Do you think I’d get rejected even thought my ACT is pretty good, the 3.35 is unweighted and I have about a 3.5 ish weighted. This is if I apply early decision and my senior year first semester grades aren’t taken into account. Do you suggest I apply early or should I apply with the general pool in order to have an opportunity to raise my grades?
Are are you sure my GPA won’t completely screw me. My classes are all difficult and I feel like that can somewhat excuse my lower GPA but it still makes me nervous to think that I might not get in as it is my dream school. As someone who recently got in, what’s your input?(for user bdkskdnjxs or anyone else who was recently admitted
You need to apply early action for the best chance at scholarships and some programs will only admit you directly if you have met the early action deadline. If you aren’t accepted early action the most likely result would be deferral to regular decision. If you are rejected early action for the Columbus campus, you would have been rejected regular decision, but you’ll know sooner and can make alternative plans. Since you are in-state, you will be offered a spot at another campus. Figure out which of those campuses offers the best start in the program you want to pursue.
Meet the early action deadline and plan to have everything in at least 2 weeks ahead of it so that if there are issues you have a chance to resolve them before missing the deadline.
btw “early decision” refers to a binding application process
Ohio State does not have “early decision” only “early action” which is non-binding
