Chance me for Ohio State?

OK, so let me begin by saying that I visited the OSU campus today and absolutely fell in love…it is gorgeous and I am hoping I will get in!

GPA-3.33 weighted 3.0 UW…will bring up to a 3.4 weighted by the end of this year.
ACT- 30 composite, 35 English 33 Reading 26 Math 26 Science (my 2nd try…Will keep retaking until I get 32 hopefully!)
ECs-Played soccer for my school freshman + sophomore year, school newspaper writer freshman year, spanish club, french club, yearbook club junior year, have had 2 jobs since last summer (20 hrs/wk), and some community service.
Classes-
Freshman year:
Algebra 1, Honors biology, world study, fine art 1, Honors english 9, honors geometry, spanish 1
Sophomore year:
Honors English 10, Honors chem, honors algebra 2, cp us history, spanish 2, government, health, econ
Junior year:
Honors english 11, Spanish 3, CP physics, child development, cooking 1+2, cp pre calc
and my schedule for senior year looks like:
AP Lit, AP environmental science, AP stats, psychology/sociology, CP calc
And I am an Asian female from Ohio (so in-state).

I understand my GPA is on the low side :frowning: am taking the ACTs for 3rd time this Sat, hopefully I will bring it up…
My common app essay will be AMAZING, recs will be pretty good, and overall I have taken 7 honors and will take 3 APs next year…basically I have been a year ahead in science + math, so that’s why I’m taking precalc and physics now although they are typically senior classes (at least at my school).

ALSO: Is University of Cincinnati a good safety school for me with these stats??? I liked it, didn’t love it (a little too close to home for me as well…lol), but liked it enough for it to be a good safety. Should I apply to more safeties??
AND one more question: all i’m applying to right now are UC and OSU. any other colleges you recommend I apply to? Would you categorize OSU as a match or a reach for me?

Anything you recommend I do to help my chances of getting into OSU?

Thank you guys, if you chance me, I will try to chance you back.

You’re definitely in. Congrats.

Unless you are applying for one of its more prestigious programs, you are very likely in at Cincinnati. The 30 on the ACT is great for them…above the 75% range. Ohio State is not as clear. Your GPA is below average for them though your ACT is strong. If I had to guess, I would say you are in, but that is not a guarantee, and I can see you being denied (3.0 is not a strong GPA these days), and OSU MAY try to admit you to a branch campus.

Cincinnati - match
OSU main campus - low reach

@BluLegacy well thank you!!

@stepay thanks  I am hoping they will take rigor of courses and my essay into heavy consideration. Do you think I should apply to another ‘safety’ school besides UC? Or am I basically guaranteed admission?

Bumppp

please :frowning:

I’ll chance u back

For Cincinnati, I’d say that you are definitely in; however, on the off chance that you don’t get accepted to Cinci for whatever reason and aren’t accepted to OSU either, I would definitely have another safety just in case.

Best of luck!

@Mandias09 thank you  do you think I have a good chance with OSU?

Probably another safety is warranted. Apply to Ohio University too and be done with it.

Good Morning. Wondering what majors you are interested in. Your question about whether you should apply to more schools- have you talked finances (and in state vs out of state vs private) with your parents? If you’re from OH, why not Miami (Oxford)?

Miami is a good state school, but she (I assume “sarajessica” is a girl) was wanting to add a safety, and that’s not necessarily a safety school for her. Good choice just to add as another possibility though.

@sarajessica For ohio state, I’d say it depends on your major. Engineering, for example, is tougher admission. Your ACT is good, but your GPA, not so much. I’ll guess that you’ll get in, but there is a chance you won’t get in because of your GPA.

@Stepay Thanks, i was considering either OU or BGSU because I’m not a huge OU fan.

@mybstnw Hi, I visited Miami and did not like the campus at all… Majors would be marketing, human resources, or psychology…
Money is not a problem, although all these schools are in Ohio which is in state.
Miami (Oxford) should be a safe bet, however, on the off chance that it’s not, I will include BGSU and/or OU.
