I'm applying Early Decision for Pitzer and Regular Decision for Scripps. High school senior from Central California.
Weighted GPA: 3.7 (not sure what my unweighted is)
First let me explain my GPA. Sophomore year I had a 3.05 and junior year I had a 4.6. I had a lot of problems going t home my sophomore year; I live/was raised by my grandparents and they were both sick all year, so it was in-and-out of the hospital all the time. It put a lot of stress on me and caused my grades to drop. It was just not a great time in my life. Junior year I pulled it together and got a 4.6. The AP courses I took were AP Lang & Comp, AP Calc AB, AP US History, college-level biology, and college Spanish. Senior year I am taking AP Literature, AP Government, AP Statistics, and college Spanish.
SAT I- 1930 (hopefully I can break 2000 my second time around!)

I am not 100% sure of my major yet, but I am considering Political Science or Media Studies.

For my essays, I'm thinking about writing about how my unique household and family situation growing up/feeling trapped and limited at times, led me to look towards the outside/global world and find my passions so I could find a way to be active in my community and make a difference.

What are my chances? I know my GPA is below the average, but will my strong upward grade trend be helpful?
