GPA: 3.85, but 4.0 Junior Year

I immigrated to America from Middle East at the start of my sophomore year. Grades suffered first semester, and i had a 3.6 unweighted. Next semester I had a 3.95, then 4.0s in both semesters of my Junior year.

Settling into life in America was hell. Complete cultural shock. Public school I went to in my sophomore year had 800 kids per year. Got a scholarship to a rigorous private, and went there for my Junior Year.

Senior Year Schedule:

  • Calculus 2 AP
  • English IV AP
  • AP Physics C
  • AP French V
  • Data Structures (college level)
  • Economics (AP not offered, will self study for AP Exams though)

Major Awards: AIME, TASP, AP Scholar with Distinction

ECs:

weakest part of application, difficult when you immigrate in the middle of high school, and attend 3 different schools.

Religious Tolerance Club Prez and Founder (11,12)

Recommendations:
English Language: 10, wrote my rec for TASP, said i was a talented writer with a unique background
Calculus Teacher: 8, said i belonged in bc calculus, and it was unfortunate I couldnt take it due to not being eligible.

Additional Recommendations:

CEO of the charity I interned at: glowing, she is a Columbia graduate, said any school would be honored to have me.

Ethnicity: Middle Eastern

Major: Either Economics, or Computer Science!

Possible Hooks: nothing lol. maybe immigrant from Saudi Arabia? interesting perspective. Have lived all over the world. And I speak English, Arabic, Urdu, and am taking AP French.

bump!!

would love some insight

I think that you have a good of a shot as any for Princeton. Your SAT/ACT line up, GPA looks good too. Perhaps the only factor that is letting you down a bit are the lack of awards and maybe some EC. But this can all be explained via the fact that you changed schools multiple times. I think if you explain your story you have an excellent chance to be picked out of the magic college admissions hat.

Yes ,I have to agree with the previous poster 55DMVMoco. Your SAT/ACT/AP grades are superb. Grades wise, you have an excellent chance. However due to immigration, your ECs suffered. However, this can be a good thing as well. In your essay you could explain the whole process of immigrating and adjusting(culture shock). I feel you could write a solid essay on this. As for your current ECs, make sure you continue them plus try to find atleast one EC that relates to stem if you want to do CS. (e.g Learn a programming language online and do some projects or Science Olympiad/Competition)

Yea for any of these schools is a reach, no matter who you are (unless youve got a nobel peace prize on you). Great stats, but these are heavy hitting schools. Show interest to UMich, cuz ive heard they like to reject high scores due to matriculation. Best of luck habibi
