Applying to: Princeton (ED), Cornell, Penn, Columbia, Northeastern, Johns Hopkins, Penn State, UConn

I really want to go to Princeton. I visited the campus and sat in on classes, and I included my experiences in my essay. If you could chance me for the other schools as well, that would be great. Thanks!

I honestly think you have a great shot at getting into Princeton, however with the fickle nature of college admissions it is to my dismay that I can’t give you a solid answer. However you do have the statistics needed to even be considered and that is more than most.

You definitely aren’t a match for Princeton (no one really is). You’re an average applicant for Princeton… nothing really stands out. Don’t expect an acceptance.

The geographic bee will not help you at all because it was before high school. I wouldn’t even put it on your app.

I also think the first two responses are highly inaccurate. Your academics are average for Princeton. Almost everyone takes the hardest classes and excels and scores highly on tests. That is expected. But you lack an incredible stand out EC that demonstrates a lot of passion. Many people have your ECs and much more while also having similar academics. Also 100 hours of community service is not great. You are honestly an average applicant at best, and unless your essays and letters of rec are out of this world incredible, its a stretch. So I would say it is a reach.

Also Princeton has Single Choice Early Action which restricts where else you can apply early, but it is not binding like Early Decision is. While statistically it has a higher acceptance rate, it will only marginally help you because that pool tends to be more qualified (while that is not so much the case for ED schools rather than SCEA) and athletes commit with Early Action. So I would not count on that helping you.

Good luck! I really hope you get in! I’m sorry if my post came off as harsh. I am just trying to give you my honest personal feedback.

Like others have posted, Princeton University is a reach for nearly everyone. Your stats are great, but so are every other applicant’s. Spend a lot of time on your essays and you have a shot. Good luck.

picklechicken37 I hear you about his odds…but let me ask this…what sort of EC would he need (or anybody)? he’s captain of the track team…and looks like tons of other stuff…in your opinion, what ECs would stand out?

There’s actually a difference between the two. Look it up. The main difference is that you have to go to the school if accepted for early decision unless their are financial difficulties. You can only apply to one school early decision. Early action is just applying early. You can apply early action at as many schools as you want, but you aren’t forced to go if accepted. Applying early decision lets the school know that university is your first choice.

I do agree with the people who say that it is a reach school for me - it is for everyone! I have some EC’s that stand out, but the schools want to know if I can bring something to the school that NOBODY else can. I just have to hope for the best.
