Hello everyone,

I am a rising senior, and I want to go to those schools above, but I don't know if I will be good enough. I want to see what other people's opinions are about my statistics. I'm looking into Mechanical, Electrical, or Computer Engineering. I go to High School in Michigan. Can you chance me for any or all of the schools I mentioned? Thanks

Thank you for chancing me!

UT and other OOS state schools are usually pretty expensive, on par with an elite private school. I think Georgia Tech is among the cheaper schools for OOS.

You definitely need a higher score to be competitive for Rice. Their admitted student profile shows mid 50 to be 32-35.

How are able to get 3.98 with so many A- grades?

My school shows only weighted gpa. That means A-'s in AC/AP classes count as 4.0 and B+'s count as 3.67, etc.

Do you think I should take the ACT again in September?
How much can scholarships cover me if I am to go to UT Austin?

Btw, I was also thinking of Northwestern University.

UT OOS scholarships are not known to be easily available. If a department gives any scholarship, then the tuition becomes in state but from what I understand each department has very few at their disposal.

Personally, I think 31 is not competitive for top 20 schools.

Your band seems interesting. If you have a passion for that, write that and focus on that.

Your scores and GPA need to be stronger, but your extracurriculars seem strong enough. As long as you focus your essays on yours ECs and raise your GPA and scores, you have a good chance for all those schools! I’d keep in mind, though, that most schools can take people with the same ECs and much higher GPA and scores. It’s kind of sad. :frowning:
Rice and Stanford are definitely reach, but I don’t know about those other schools. Please work on your essays!

Chance back please! http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1521968-cant-pay-all-admission-fees-will-chance-back.html

Hmm! It’s kind of hard to raise my gpa much more; I mean like, I have 3.98/4.00, but I guess I can raise it to 3.99 by end of senior year.

Your uw GPA should be around 3.9 (considering 1/3 A-). ACT 31 is at average for overall admission for UMich. Being in state may offset the higher requirement for CoE. So you should still be a match to high match. If you want to study Computer Science, you may consider LSA as well and you would be a match to low match for that. Reach for Stanford and Rice. MSU should be safety.

What about Cornell and Northwestern?

Cornell and Northwestern are more competitive than UMich. It would be low reach to reach with ACT 31.
