Chance Me For Rowan Engineering & Business

Alright, so I am not entirely sure of what I want to do at this point. I know I either want to go into some sort of engineering or finance (maybe accounting). These 2 Majors would fall under the school of engineering and the school of business. Please chance me for each.

High School:
Top Public - Ranked 125 in the nation for publics and the number 1 public school in south jersey.

Cumulative W: 3.4/4.0 (89/100)

Freshman Year
W: 2.8/4.0 (83/100)
UW: 3.1/4.0 (85
2 honors classes (geometry & biology)

Sophomore Year:

SAT's:
SAT 1: 1190/1600
CR: 550
Math: 640
I am taking these 1 or 2 more times, shooting for at least a 700 in math and and 1250+

EC's:
-Model UN - 5 committees, won best novice once.
-MADMen (Make A Difference Mentors) - 1 yr (will be 2 by graduation) - A peer mentoring program where I helped a student (1 on 1) with academic, social and organizational issues.
-Habitat for Humanity - 3 yrs - I went to North Carolina and helped build houses for those who are less fortunate. Each trip was a week long.
-Music - I play guitar and bass and have performed at local restaurant on numerous occasions through the school of rock.

Also:
-I am applying for, though have not yet been accepted or denied to the drexel visiting scholars program. If I get in I can take 2 college courses per semester at drexel university.
-If I do not get into said drexel visiting scholars program I will attend the drexel summer materials/engineering camp.
-I am try and likely will get a job this summer.

All that being said, do you think I will get into rowan for business, engineering or both?
Also, how well accredited is the business school?
Lastly, do I have any shot at honors?

I’m no expert, but pretty knowledgeable. I’m an alum with a son currently in the engineering college. I’m also a recruiter who visits colleges. My educated guess is (on a scale of 1-5, 5 being a sure thing):

Engineering: 2
Business: 4
Honors: 1. Your grades are low. But again, I’m nowhere close to being a decision-maker.

Engineering school is highly selective. Generally accept only 30-40 new freshman in each branch (civil, chemical, computer, electrical, mechanical). Soph year, profs weed out and then accept a limited amount of transfers. The good news is that it looks like you did pretty well in math. If you do closer to 700/700 (say, like 600/650), you’ll increase your odds greatly. The downside is that the accepted engineers aren’t “maybe I’ll major in engineering” types. They are more committed, along the lines of “Geez. What else would I do?”

The other factor is grades. You don’t have a steady, proven track record at maintaining a 3.2+ There are many engineering students that were 4.0+ W in HS that work hard to maintain the 3.0+ that they need to keep their scholarships going.

Rowan has an “Engineers without Borders” program. Similar to Habitat for Humanity, but your help is conducted abroad (e.g. in a Third-World/Underdeveloped nation). You don’t have to be an engineering major to belong to the program. That’s a way for you to “kill two birds with one stone”.

I might have low-balled your chances in business, or accounting/finance. See my post under “Why Rowan” to see ITS “chance” for YOU to accept ROWAN.

I am a former transfer student into engineering (Never even took an SAT!), so my perspective is different, but keep this in mind. I’m a 2011 grad and current Master’s student in Mechanical Engineering. We get tons of apps for the program now according our chair. I think the last class was like a 3.8ish GPA and 1320 SAT average.

I think you will get into the University. If you REALLY want to do engineering. Take all the same level math/science and transfer in your 2nd or 3rd semester. A few guys did that here (Went from undeclared to engineering). Their is no guarantee, and you are kinda going up against the top students in the University.

I think I got a 2000+ (~1370) on my last SAT and I think I can get 750+ on the Chem and Math II subject tests.

I’m a parent who is hoping her son can get into Rowan for Engineering Fall 2013. At the end of his junior year his weighted gpa is over a 4.0, he is in top 5% of his class. All his classes have been Honors and AP but his Sat score was a 1740/2400. Can anyone suggest what score he should shoot for?

I received this information from admissions a year ago in April 2011, but I know the averages have climbed. I believe Mechanical is the most competitive.

Below are the average SATs, GPA, and class rank for our four engineering majors for fall 2010.
