Hi Guys, what are my chances for RPI?

unweighted GPA: 3.45
10 AP’s (including biology, chem, us history, and calculus)

  • In the Engineering Design Senior Research Lab at my school
  • act: 34

EC’s

  • 3 years of debate (2 years officer position, 3 years varsity member, won several awards, debate All-American
  • 4 years of environmental science club (designed and built a self-sustaining aquatic ecosystem)
  • president of a tutoring club for new freshmen
  • 9 years of recreational soccer and basketball
  • 100+ volunteer hours for the same organization

Wrote my Common App essay on my personal/family ties to Civil Engineering and why I want to major in it.

I can’t really judge your essay. Your ECs are pretty average, but the volunteer work is amazing and All-American in debate is definitely something that stands out. 10 APs is very good if you got good AP scores (4s and 5s). Your GPA is pretty low, even for unweighted, but your ACT is phenomenal. You’ll probably rank in the top 75% of applicants assuming that your essay was good and all goes well. I think you’ll most likely get in. Best of luck!

Listen, I got in with an unweighted GPA of 88 and an ACT of 31 with only having taken 3 AP classes during my senor year and none prior. In my mind anything is possible.
