Awards for highest grade in Eng Hon II and AP English Lang
I have taken 8 Honors classes and 1 AP class (English Lang and I scored a 5 on the exam)
This year I am taking 5 Honors and 2 AP (Psychology and English Lit)
I am a Questbridge Finalist (Wellesley rejected me for the match)
I come from a low-income family ($20,000-$30,000) with parents separated by a restraining order
EC’s: Member of 5 Honors Societies (English, Math, History, Science, and Law - I do tutoring for each), Tech Ambassador (Leadership role), and She’s the First club
I don’t have a job or play a sport, so my EC’s are pretty weak.
Strong Recommendations from Teachers (one from class I received the award for)
Good Essays (one about the domestic abuse in my household and the other about my glossophobia and panic attacks)
Would applying to Wellesley/Smith ED II be my only chance to get in? Or do I have a good enough app for RD for Wellesley/Smith?
I think Smith you have a better shot at Smith. Wellesley is more competitive and likely to more of a reach for you. If you had higher test scores and more AP courses it would have been better. But you should apply to both regardless. They are both excellent schools and your have good qualifications. You never know what combination of qualifications a specific school is looking for this year. It is completely possible you may end up getting into Wellesley and not Smith. To improve your chances I hope you are applying to more schools. Good luck.
I agree with much of @akin67’s post but I don’t think Wellesley will admit you (in ED or RD) based on the Questbridge result. Your essays also sound more like a fit for Smith. Good luck!
@Oregon2016 do you think I have a strong enough application to get into Smith RD so I don’t have to commit and apply ED II? Or would that give me better odds?
