Chance me for some Tech schools (mediocre GPA)

<p>Okay, so I've revised my list of potential schools slightly, adding in some reaches, just to make sure there are no "what-ifs" when I'm older :)
So, here are my stats:
-3.62 UW/ 4.32 W GPA</p>

<p>-Freshman year: 3.9
-SOPHOMORE YEAR: Had a miserable GPA first semester of around 3.14, with a C in algebra from doing really bad on the exam. Pretty sure this either severely limits or completely eliminates my chances at a top school.
-Junior year: 3.6, so far.
Senior year Courseload:
-AP Physics
-AP Programming
-ADV Web Design
-AP Psychology
-BC Calculus
-Honors English 12</p>

<p>AP's Taken/ in the works for this year:
NSL (2) :(
World
Lang
Bio</p>

<p>PSAT: 214
(The SAT's in March... know it sucks to not put it down and ask for a chance when it's such an important factor, but if you could go by my PSAT scores, maybe?)</p>

<p>Exracurriculars (including next year)
-4 years of wrestling, 2 years of varrsity (JV Captain)
-5 years of Submission wrestling
-2 of Boxing
-2 years of Robotics
-Just passed the preliminary round of application to the NIST Center for Nanoscale Science and Technology as a computer science intern for this summer.
-going to start at Spectrum Family Medicine working with medical records.
-surpassing my Programming 1 class, pretty much learning Java on my own, might start C++ or Python or something soon.</p>

<p>Awards/ Honors
-Won UMD's Masterpiece contest for a piece I did in digital art back in 9th grade on their women's basketball team
-And that's pretty much it.</p>

<p>Essays and Recommendations scheduled to be awesome. I'm a decent writer, and kind of a strange guy, so I hope to make my essays and interviews will stick out. </p>

<p>And, in case you're wondering:
- First Generation American (parents came here from Lebanon)
- Income: ~200k
- Have a sister at Georgetown right now
- Trilingual (Fluent in English, Conversational in Arabic and French)</p>

<p>So, here we go...
Chance me for Computer Science at....
Stevens Institute of Technology (Just went to their open house, applying for a Robotics scholarship soon... shown a lot of interest in their school.)
RPI ( Also will be visiting and applying to a FIRST robotics scholarship)
WPI
CMU
Cornell (yeah, just 'cause)
UMD (Safety)
NYU- Poly
JHU (also, just 'cause... only top CS school in this area)</p>

<p>And PLEASE recommend some other schools too, I swear I had more that I might add soon.</p>

<p>First off, I think you are extremely naive. 3.62 is not a “mediocre” GPA. 3.62 is very impressive - people would kill for that GPA. A 3.62 will get you in to many of the top 50 colleges in the WORLD. Will it get you in the top 10? No. Top 20? Maybe. But there are THOUSANDS of universities - having a top 50 caliber GPA is impressive. </p>

<p>Now, you did not take your Sats yet. Also, you cumulative gpa is a 3.54, not a 3.6. That does not even round up to a 3.6. 3.9 + 3.6 + 3.12 = 10.62. 10.62/3 = 3.54. So no, you do not have a 3.62. And for the colleges you are applying to, your GPA will not include your senior year GPA. So please, do not round up to a 3.62 when you have a 3.54.</p>

<p>Finally, UMD is not your “safety school”. It states right on the website that their average GPA is a 3.8 - 3.9. UMD is a GPA heavy school. At a 3.52, your UMD is not a safety school. </p>

<p>Cornell, you dont have the GPA or Sat scores to get in, assuming you maintain at a 3.52 and a 2130. </p>

<p>I would suggest Boston University, George Washington University</p>

<p>A few things:
-I said 3.14 was my first semester GPA Sophomore year. I got a 3.7 second semester, making my average around 3.4 for sophomore year. Thus, a 3.62 GPA. I didn’t calculate that myself: it says so on my report card.
-in comparison to the schools I’m hoping to get into, and the grades of the general group of people I’m exposed to in my AP classes, 3.62 is slightly below their average. (except for, strangely enough, CMU =/ )
-I’m in state for UMD, makes it quite a bit easier to get in… admissions standards are difficult, but I know a few B and C students that are currently attending
-EDIT: also, of course UMD’s website will say a 3.9 GPA is needed. UNC’s website says that their average GPA is a 4.0.</p>

<p>Your GPA isn’t that bad. If you can pull of the same thing on the SAT as your PSAT (around a 2100 with a 700+ in math), then your chances will be much better. Considering you get a 2100 in your SAT:</p>

<p>Cornell: High Reach/Reach
JHU: Reach
NYU:Low reach/Match
CMU: Low Reach/Reach</p>

<p>I’d recommend looking at GeorgiaTech.</p>

<p>Nice, thanks  How is Georgia Tech’s CS?</p>

<p>Anyone else =/?</p>

<p>I’m not that familiar with CC lingo. Whats CS?</p>

<p>Computer Science :)</p>
