Chance me for Stanford! Will chance back!!

You have a good chance, but work on your essays. Show how you stand out from the other qualified applicants through them.

Bumpp. Anymore chances/tips. Thanks all!

I would say that your very impressive scores make up for a bit of a lower GPA due to freshmen/sophomore year. Classes vary around the nation, and thus scores do as well, but your standardized scores prove that you are ready for a competitive college environment. You seem like a worthy applicant for Stanford, but with low acceptance rates, it’s always up in the air. Good luck!

Chance me http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1435562-chances-yale-stanford.html</a></p>

Also do your best to distinguish what you’ve done that’s different from every other Indian kid that wants to go to Stanford and be a doctor ;)

I don’t really have anything that distinguishing. I’m using my essays to talk about how I love science. I also considered submitting and arts supplement witha video of me playing one of my best pieces for guitar. Would that help distinguish me even though I’m not a music major?

I don’t think its certain that they’d look at it if you sent an ‘arts supplement’ (unless you’re applying for a music major), but definitely mention stuff like this emphatically in your ECs. That being said, as long as your essays are good, I think you are a perfect match for Stanford and have a very high chance of getting in.

Chance me back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1435456-chance-australian.html</a></p>

You have amazing test scores and amazing rigor in your schedule! Might I ask how you had 5 APs and 8 dual enrollment classes in one year? My school only allows 7 total AP or dual enrollment classes in one year! How did you manage to suddenly get all A’s with 13 college classes when you had Bs and Cs before junior year?

I think you’ll get in. At the very least you deserve to, if your descriptions of your achievements and your circumstances were accurate. As long as you can provide a personal side to your application, since your stats are the sort that make applicant like me feel bad about ourselves lol, I think you’ll be fine. And don’t look too much into the Ethnicity thing. Quotas are outlawed for a reason, and while schools like Stanford look to foster racial diversity, they also look to foster diversity on many other levels, particularly economic. And I doubt that there are very many applicants of your stature with the same financial circumstances, so I would look at your non-numerical aspects as a strength, rather than a weakness like a simple-minded analysis would lead you to doing. That said, congrats on what you’ve done thus far and don’t be dispelled by the overrepresentation of Indians and Asians in the applicant pool. And if you have a minute, do me a favor and chance me back at: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1435283-chance-me-cornell-penn-northwestern-rice.html</a>. Thanks!!

@ipodsinger- It took a lot of hard work but I made it happen. Freshman and Sophomore year I honestly just didn’t care. I wasted so much on Youtube,Facebook, etc. Thought I was gonna go to my local University(which isn’t very prestigious), but at the end of Sophomore year I decided I wanted to go somewhere better. I deactivated my Facebook account, got rid of distractions(girlfriend) and buckled down. I was always told that I’m smart but I just never really applied myself until Junior year.

As for the course load, I got a new guidance councilor Junior year and he was a real big push over. Old GC didn’t allow anything over 6 AP or Full time DE but this one said I could do whatever my heart desired. I split the DE over summer, fall and spring semesters. School doesn’t really have set restrictions. They don’t keep much track anyways.

This is a bit of a tough one; on one hand you’re obviously very qualified for Stanford academically. But your ECs don’t exactly stand out in the applicant pool, that’s not to say that they’re bad, but they aren’t particularly unique, especially for Asian applicants. I’d put your chances at higher than most b/c of your academic prowess & low income bracket. Maybe 15-20%

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1435520-chance-me-rd-schools-will-chance-back.html</a></p>

What counts as a unique EC? I won’t 1st in states for Science Olympiad in 3 different events. Does that count?

I agree with a lot of the other posters. Stanford isn’t a reach because you’re not qualified enough. Your SAT, W GPA, and Subject tests are nearly perfect; it’s clear that you’re extremely intelligent. The problem lies in the fact that about 90% of the other applicants are in the same boat. Being low income will help, but you need to separate yourself from all of the other incredibly intelligent applicants. Your ECs are one way, but there isn’t much you can do to change or improve them now. You should focus on what you can control: the essays. It seems that you have a unique background, and you should try to let your personality shine through in your writing. Good luck! :)

Chance me back please?

I’ve been working like crazy on them but can you or somebody clarify what exactly a unique EC is?

A unique EC is something that you love doing, and have done for many years. I don’t think your EC’s are that great. I may be wrong, but you seem to have the mentality that you should join a dozen different clubs because it ‘looks good’ to Stanford (it actually doesn’t).

I mean, I don’t want to sound harsh but this rubs me the wrong way: “I’ve been working like crazy on them.”

It almost sounds like it’s just a chore you have to slog through to make yourself look better.

The majority of my ECs are focused around Science. It’s the one thing I really like and I’m putting high emphasis on that in my essays. I wrote my Stanford essays in November. What I meant was that I’m making last minute tweaks and changes to them.

I humbly apologize if you are being sincere (there is no way for me to tell). My gut feeling tells me you aren’t, because you keep asking what EC’s are unique (aka ones that Stanford will ‘like’).

Can I get a few more last minute tips and thoughts? Thank you all so much for the support thus far!
